Block Castings

Okay, I pulled off the starter a few minutes ago and identifed the block:

D4AE-6015-AA 8

If i'm decoding this correctly, my 351W came out of a 1974 full size ford car and it's the original version. What I need some help with is what does the 8 on the end mean? Also, there were four small characters under this ID but I could'nt make out what they were. Am I decoding this correctly?

Heads

Pulled the engine out today. I believe the heads are post '77 because there's no deplacemnt number stamped on the top of the heads. Theres a number 78 on top. I'm hoping these are not '78 heads because I was told that '78 heads with a cast number D8OE-AB was garbage and try to avoid them. I will pull the heads off tomorrow if I have time to actaully check the cast number. What's a good year and cast number for 351W heads?
