let him simmer for a while. call him back in a month when he's made zero dollars lol. i got mine, a V6 though, for 2300 in about that good of shape. my motor and trans had less than 20k on the clock after the rebuild as well.
The V8 probably adds some value, but not much considering it made 140hp stock. in the meantime yeah, look for more :P

Mine's only up to around 225hp these days and it is a blast to drive. There's starting to be a larger aftermarket for them these days as well. Lots of good front suspension and brake components, its not hard to put a T5 in and they're pretty light too. And as long as smog doesn't get in your way, it's pretty easy to mod that small block. If you can find one, it will be excellent fun

Oh definitely I'm in school for auto tech and I'm 20 years old so I'm pretty much learning the ropes still but i love it and have all the tools I need at my disposal there so the more I can do the better and I love mustangs they are beautiful, I love ford too just a great company have nothing against them at all

It's a survivor car and not a restored car. Top dollar will go for a restored car unless it's something really special. Owner needs to realize how much more it's gonna cost to get it right.

That Cobra II is missing the rocker stripes which came with every Cobra II. It is therefore NOT in original condition. That alone makes it not worth paying top dollar for. Like someone else said keep looking if he won't come down to a realistic price...

At this point pony cars almost became completely extinct. The Cougar grew into an intermediate luxury car. During the early 1970's economical and sporty captive imports became popular which included the Datsun 240Z, Toyota Celica and Ford's own Capri. The Mustang II was introduced as a back to basics competitor in late 1973 as a down sized sub-compact. The Mustang II sold like crazy, so much so that GM counteracted with the 1975 Monza/Skyhawk/Starfire triplets as economical sporty subcompacts took off. The Camaro nameplate narrowly escaped being applied instead of Monza.
You really have to live in the times to understand them. This is where the market was. The reality was muscle cars were written off into history because of fuel shortages, safety regulations and insurability concerns. There was the new standards for emissions and gas rationing on even and odd days. Both sets of my Grandparents got rid of their Cadillacs for smaller economical cars, one of them a Chevette while the other a VW Type 3.
By 1977, the fuel crisis dissipated. It was the beginning of glam and disco. For the image conscious it was all about outward appearances. The best selling cars were now intermediate personal luxury cars including the new smaller Thunderbird, Monte Carlo, Cutlass, Cordoba etc. People enjoyed the "Super Fly" opulance of an Eldorado, Mark IV or previous year Thunderbirds in a smaller size and much lower price. It was not until 1977 when the Pontiac Trans Am "Bandit" became so notable as an macho image car that American muscle began to make a comeback, though true performance would not be restored until five years later. 1978 brought the resurrection of the Camaro Z28 which was also quite popular. Ford created some interest with spoilers and stripes with the 1976 Cobra II and the 1978 King Cobra.
The popularity of those cars laid for the muscle car to make a comeback. Although the Mustang was redesigned for 1979, Ford sold plenty of 4-cyl Mustangs as a popular alternative to a Pinto but not many people were interested in the V8 cars considering that GM was still selling plenty of the very dated Z28's and Trans Ams. It was not until 1982 that things got serious again with Ford resurrecting "The Boss" Mustang GT with a high output 5.0 liter engine. GM upped the ante with ultra contemporary redesigned Camaros and Firebirds featuring higher output V8's. Ever since then the HP wars have been back on.

Hold on a sec - the interrior is mint or near mint with 7420 original miles? 6K might not be too bad. Is the entire car mint of just the interior - how's the suspension, engine bay, all that? Can't really tell from the pics.

well the odomter only has 5 digits so i can see how it would appear misleading. I thoughy my car was a 20K car until the owner explained it had rolled over and been rebuilt again. it's not that suprising for a car of this era

So what. Clean body and interior. That engine and trans should go to the scrap yard anyways. I wouldn't even try and start it. Just pull the motor, clean up the body and interior, and make it a monster.
