What a trip... just caught myself - sort of like standing in the other corner of the room and observing me.
I'm surrounded by nice things, music studio with some nice pieces, new comp, pretty new tv, couch, movie playing in the back ground, blah, blah, blah...
Yet I caught myself kneeling in front of the wood stove, gazing at the fire... lol

I love watching a fire and find myself doing that too when I'm messing with the wood stove and anytime I'm sitting around a fire. But we are thinking of getting rid of the wood stove and getting a pellet stove. I'm tired of the mess and having to go outside in all kinds of weather to bring it in the house.

Nothing wrong with going back to school no matter how old you are.

Yeah, there is no work ethic anymore with today's youth...

Well obviously it doesn't apply to everyone but sadly you would be considered the minority

oh so true. It especially irritates me when everyone says that they have a work ethic. I know better than that. I've seen classmates gripe about workloads that should take an hour if they actually work on it. Infuriating.

I put a pellet stove up in the loft. Didn't want to have to carry wood up stairs. It still has a nice flame but the ceramic log kit would make it more realistic. However, they said that carbon builds up on the logs and is quite a mess to clean.

This one was pricey because of the cast iron but it looks pretty cool. When the loft is finished it will be the 'happy hour' lounge so it makes a great setting. All auto with thermostat. The only thing I don't like is the fan is always on but that's how they work.

I like that one. We plan to gut the basement and remodel everything. It's needed to be done for quite a while. It is so dark down there with the wood paneling from the 70s, lol. Nothing has been done to the basement since I bought the place March 13, 1992, 21 years ago. Now with 2 electrical basement fires in the neighborhood in a matter of weeks between them, we've bumped that project up a little higher on the to do list.

It sounds like you have walls down stairs so this may not be important. But in my 'college student painting' days in StL (my first business @19), we would seal the basement walls by painting a mixture of 1/3 sand, 1/3 cement, 1/3 lime. It would seal real well against moisture but also make it a bright white from the lime and sort of that old school sand finish. Kind of a pain to apply as its thick a mixture.
