Thanx kiddo. I feel better and encouraged since Monday.
After 2 yrs of my highly trusted highly capable dr being asleep at the switch as I regularly complained of 'chest pain, sternum pain, hard to breathe' episodes every 3-4 weeks, I finally tried a new doctor on 1.27. He immediately ordered xray which led to CT which led to CT w/contrast, which showed a squished hand ball in my sternum (neoplasm in anterior mediastinum). Great. Bichin. Bob Bichin.
So they sent me on 2.17 for a biopsy where they stuck a freakin needle in my chest, and inside that was a smaller needle with a pacman thing on the end where they got several chomps for samples as they kept running the CT as their precise guide. (The night of 2.16 was one of the scariest of my life. My body/brain kept dumping panic as I freaked out about who's going to take care of my kids if things go bad, who do I call if I get stuck at the hosp for a week or something, etc.)
So finally, Monday they said no lymphoma, no germinoma, no seminoma, no carcinoma, no small cell lung, no myasthenia gravis, no thyroid problems... although they can't be 100% sure until they get to this thing as the needle biopsy is very small snippets. But he dug around in there for 15 mins getting a good cross section. About 5 mins after they had that needle out and were winding up, I just broke down on the table. They came running afraid I was having a reaction to the local, but I told them I'm just releasing all that stress buildup. Freaky stuff man.
Said heart good, lungs good, esophagus good. I have lived my life pretty healthy so as to pass my 96, 97 yr relatives and be the first centanarian in my family, so my immune system should be in top shape to kick asz.
So that was good news! I promptly went to the pub and told the gang. (I hadn't told anyone about any of this. No one to really tell.)
Now the bad news - they still have to cut open my sternum similar to open heart and get this 'thymoma' out. The thymus goes dormant as a child but for some reason mine 'went big' the past few years and is pressing against all the important stuff. The nearest hosp isn't up to speed so they're sending me over the hill to the regional hosp in the valley. Very good facility for cardio so they can also do this type of stuff. Says its pretty routine 3-5 days in, able to do light duty (like 10# flakes of hay) pretty much as soon as I get home. Waiting for their call to schedule.
Overall good news if you're going to get bad news at 56. And maybe this tune up will even strengthen me for 100+. Cause I ain't done yet!!!
More than you wanted to know! lol
