Scott, Lee suggested I ask you if you are familiar with Columbus, GA and the area around Fort Benning. I am trying to get some info about the area. Are you familiar with it?

Wow. Wow. Wow. I can't believe it.
My wife got a job today! She's been out of work for 23 months. Since then we've moved an hour away and had two little boys! Seriously. This is a huge blessing! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!

I havent ever been there, but have a friend that lives there. Closest ive been is Opelika AL (which is bordering Auburn) and is about 30min away from columbus I think. ive spent a good deal of time down in Opelika and can make suggestions based off that.

I assume you're planning on staying in Columbus? I haven't been there in quite a few years, but a lot of the areas are ****holes, and are pretty rough. Personally I would read through reviews on tripadvisor and spend the extra coin for a higher end hotel (Marriot, Hyatt, etc.). As a general rule, those places aren't going to be in a ****ty part of town. Maybe even call a few and ask about the area they are in and what is nearby to get an idea of what's around.

Not to sound racist, but that area of the state is full of ghetto dwelling thuglife wannabe gangstas riding around in Caprices on 30" rims.
I think Scott travels to the Alabama side of the river across from Columbus some. He may have been there more recently than me and have some insight.

I'm sure there are some good things about it, but they're either few and far between or people I know just haven't managed to come across them, or appreciate them. I've never ventured out toward Benning, just around Columbus and Phenix City, Al. on the other side of the river. Like mentioned before, I'd say the best bet would be to stay at a better name hotel and you're likely to end up in a better part of town.
Maybe call their chamber of commerce, and visitor's bureau and talk to them, might give you a little bit of an idea about where to go.

Yeah in that general area, in Opelika, right off 85, I think its exit 58 is Tiger Town, newly developed shopping area and all of teh hotels right there are less tahn 5yr old, which means they are super nice and clean.

I hate all of you bastards! And really am starting to contemplate my marriage choice too. Should have went for cooking skills and personality instead. FML
