Engine, trans, wheels/tires, seats, nav, brakes, all of those would be close or maybe more then $25k. Then all the little bits, spoiler windows, suspension, rear end. You could sell all that if done right for almost 40k. just guessing of course.

And they wonder why people hate car salesmen. I can't believe the level of disdain some of these hacks have for customers and the way they talk down to people on these forums. If I owned a dealership and one of my employees was on a website posting the things I see some of them post, they wouldn't have a job for long, especially if they let it be known publicly the name of my business.

I have never thought of it as a secret that the dealer was keeping from the customer, I think it is more a matter of it not coming up on conversation. The reason the cost so much is the cost of a key ranging between $40-$80 and then the hour minimum charge for labor to program. Yes it does only take 10min but its no different then if they were going to check a CEL, that also only takes 10min but they are still going to get you for the hour minimum.
End rant, not picking on anyone just stating how I feel.

Unfortunately I have to agree with him, having worked at a dealer in parts I know where he is coming from and honestly don't understand why a dealer should provide a 3rd key to a customer. I would cut many 3rd keys for sales and charge them to the deal if the customer requested and it was part of the agreed deal. On the other hand often people would come in and ask to buy a 3rd key when they picked up their new car. I would usually go out and program it for them for free. Many new cars come with a 3rd key now usually as a valet key.

It wasn't really the subject matter I was referring to, it was the condescending tone and the snide way he presents his side of the debate. This isn't the first time, there have been other threads as well where customers were basically thought of as idiots there for the picking. Maybe its just me, but it shows a lack of respect for the people that put food on your table, and if putting it out there in that manner on a forum, you can imagine what goes on behind closed doors with the other employees. I can guarantee you that I wouldn't buy a car from that dealership if it was the last one on earth (and I don't even know where it is, but if I did). Like I mentioned before, if I was the owner of that dealership and I saw that, the first time he ever mentioned where he worked, his *** would be out on the street by dark.
