It's in there pretty tight. I don't think that's it.

Sound waves. Also different materials might resonate at different frequencies.
But the sound waves in a bass are EXTREMELY LONG. That's why moving a sub in a home theater around the living room makes for completely different sounds when sitting in the same chair. Being in a corner acts as an amplifier. Bouncing sound waves back into the room.
It's also why in a car you like a Mustang you should point the subs to the rear and bounce them off the trunk and also use the car as a resonator. As I reinforced with my install the sound waves can be too long to be heard properly if your sitting in the front seat with a front firing sub. But from 15' in front of the car it may actually sound bassier.
It's complicated but that's essentially it. Long sound waves can travel through different medians too, while short (treble) waves will bounce off easier.

BTW Nathan,
I want to see pics of your HDTV in HDTV with an antenna attached by Friday night or I will ask Arin to :ban: you for laziness. Just go to the store, get the antenna, and connect it. It's like $20. And if your dad gives you trouble you say this...
"Look old man, I've had about enough of SDTV. So I'm putting this antenna on this TV whether you like it or not! Any questions? I didn't think so."

It's almost like a string on a guitar, or a tuning fork...hit a piece of plastic or sheetmetal with a certain frequency (vibration) and it will resonate when normally it would not.

some trivia-
Long waves also known as ULF can also travel thousands of miles underwater. The navy uses them with deep diving subs to communicate.

True.

Well that might be from differing lengths of the waves. I'm just making my best educated guess here. You turn on the radio the car makes noise. The radio plays different songs and the car makes noises in different places.

I was just thinking. If you want to solve a problem look at what's changed. The control is the car with everything running and no music on. The car doesn't make noise. Turn on the radio, no subs, the car doesn't make noise. Turn on the sub, the car makes noise. Play a different song (different bass line, frequencies, etc) noises change. What has really changed here? Not the car.
