The Shelby GT350 shows the Hellcat another form of Detroit speed at one of those wildly successful air-strip drag races.

Actually the Chally won two out of three...and only lost because he was sleeping at the wheel for the other run. The 350 does hang pretty good though.

GT350 sounds badass though. Even when they showed the run from the Hellcat camera, the GT350 was what you heard.
All in all, I think it held its own. I would have thought the Dodge would have done better.

I also would have expected 707 HP to trounce 526 HP, even with the weight difference.

The Hellcat is touted as being the big boss to contend with, but its biggest drawback has always been the heft which it needs to lug around. It’s probably why it sticks to straight lines, mostly. Well, the GT350 has arrived to show the Hellcat another form of Detroit speed, on this occasion at one of those wildly successful air-strip drag races (they are quite cool, if you haven’t been to one already).

The 707-horsepower unit found in the Dodge has a clear advantage in power. Ford’s 526-horsepower motor is some 180 horsepower off the mark, but how much of that is just hot air? And how do they perform in the real world?

Well, before you jump to conclusions about the video, there’s also something to point out here: driver mod is important. With two wins each out of four runs, getting a good launch is critical in order to stay ahead. Though even when the Hellcat driver nails it off the line, the race concludes quite closely. Trap speeds were 143 and 147 for the Ford and Dodge respectively. Dodge gets the win this time, but we have one reply: just wait till the GT500 comes out!

speaking of hot air, that can have a significant impact on the Hellcat's performance. I'm not sure how aggressive FCA is with the protection on the engine but I know a hot day and a hot engine bay can mean upwards of a 100 horsepower difference compared to a cold day and a cool engine compartment on the GT500.

I don't understand this race. Is this a trap speed race for 1/2 mile? Or just a 1/2 mile drag race? It seems longer than 1/4. Just not sure what this race accomplishes other than the dodge is a little faster. There's so many factors in a drag race. Not surprised by the outcome though. 150hp in a drag race is not much difference if neither car is set up for drag racing. There are cars with much less hp that will smoke both of these. I would love to see these two on slicks and good driver do some real racing. Both cars took off with barely a spin on a no prep concrete road. I would rather see these cars race from a 40mph roll.
