2015 first oil change

So when would you guys recommend my first oil change? 500 miles? 1000 miles? 2000 miles? Afterwards when would you recommend normal oil change intervals for full synthetic?

I'm a new 15 owner. A friend is on the board of Mustang Club of America and has a 14 Boss 302 with years of experience. He suggested changing at 1K, 3K, 5K and then every 5K. He only uses Mobile 1 5W20 for everyday but a more performance base for track. Hope this helps. I'm right at 1K on the new 2015 so an Oil change in store this weekend for me.

Took mine in at 1700 miles. Mobil 1, best oil filter from Ford, had a K & N filter installed and the total price was $97.62 I always change mine between 3 - 4K. Good protection and has worked fine on all 6 Mustangs since 1997.

After the first change at 2 or 3 k I would follow what ever Ford suggests. Full syn oil should be good for at least 7k miles or so.

What does the Ford scheduled maintenance manual say? Just curious. Waiting for my GT to come in. I've always followed to the letter on what these manuals say on all my rides.

Lots (and lots) of debate on oil change frequency on this and other sites. And some folks take it very personally. Only about three people in the existing universe (myself included) will call it as simply as 'do what the manual says'.

Yeah, I've always been a "what does the book say" guy. That's my Naval aviation maintenance coming out of me.

I'm with you on that. However...

Lot of 'old school' guys do the first oil change within the first 1000 miles, then follow the owners manual intervals. While they say there is no 'break in oil' nowadays that needs to be changed, that doesn't change the fact that you have new parts stuffed in an engine in a factory. Then you have the engine being pushed during break in with lots of varying rpm's, including up to redline, and other initial operation of all those internal parts. The filter may pick up most stuff but common sense tells me to change that initial oil out and start fresh. Notice what this guys oil analysis found:

8.16.14 I changed my factory fill oil @ 3,500 miles (supercharged at 1000 miles) and had a used oil analysis (UOA) performed, here's the report:

2014 Ford Mustang GT 5.0LV8 Ti-VCT 32V. Motorcraft 5W-20
Thanks for the note on the supercharger. Your engine might not wear like ur averages, which are based on the stock version of this engine, but well see what the engine looks like when the wear-in-stuff washes out. For now, iron, copper, and silicon are high. The metals are from the break-in of new parts, and silicon comes from the sealers and sand-casted parts. Look for improvements in these things next time. No fuel, moisture, or coolant was found, and the TBN was fine at 5.4 since 1.0 or less is low. Try up to 5,000 miles for the next time. So far, so good!

To me that analysis confirms why many of us change out the oil within the first 1000 miles on a new engine before cycling into the owners manual recommended intervals.

For those of you that have changed your 2015 GT oil, is it possible to get the filter out without spilling oil over steering linkage and other things?

Yes! Although I have the EB now, my previous Mustangs were all V8's. Loosen the filter and then place a plastic bag over it, as you complete the removal. all the used oil will spill into the bag along with the filter. No muss, no fuss. With the filter in the bag you can then move it around to clear all the parts in the way. Just keep the bag upright, as you lower it.
