No 5.0 For Me - I'd Rather Have the EcoBoost

I'll somewhat agree about the comment never having as much power as the v8's. Yet, you have plenty of cars on the market, like the GT-R(which is awd,I'll give ya that) which are 6cyl turbos that can whoop plenty of v8's. It's all how they companies make the engines and drivetrains. These new EB mustangs are quick.

After driving a fast revving V8 like the Coyote, I have no idea how anyone in their right mid would go to an EB.
I can understand V6 vs EB, but V8 vs. EB is laughable.
No way. If you can afford the V8 why in heaven's name would you choose anything else?

Putting my son in a Focus ST from a standard Focus SE was a big jump on insurance. Can't image what it would have been for a GT.

Not every Mustang owner needs or wants the HP of the V8, for some it is about having a daily driver that looks cool and gets good gas mileage. And on top of that you have the cost of insurance on the GT vs the EB4/V6 which is much cheaper for some.

If you're not in the market for a V8, fine. But the concept of being in the market for a V8 and choosing an EB in it's stead is laughable.

I don't see why it is laughable. I myself would personally never buy a v6 mustang but I would consider a mustang with a turbo in it :-) I am with the V8 or go home crowd but I think the ecoboost mustang is pretty cool.

In all seriousness though, the EB is competition to the V6, not the V8. I'd rather have the EB than the V6 any day as well, but the EB can't hold a candle to the V8. 310hp/320tq are very good numbers given the displacement, but at only 170lbs difference between them the extra 125hp/80tq the V8 has is in a whole another class. Particularly with 3.73 gearing.
I track my car. I've seen my share of V8s, I4's, turbo 4s, straight 6'se and V6'es, turbo 6'es and even turbo 5's at the track. Usually the lighter cars do better in the corners and gain a little, but as soon as you hit a straight the V8s make up the difference, pass everything else, and build a solid lead. This continues lap after lap, and as as the turbos/superchargers get hotter it gets worse.
Therefore I think V8 is the way to go for people interested in sustained speed or competition.

Just coming from a 14 V6, to a 14 GT (only lost 1000 on my v6 trade vs new cost) and also picking up a 14, 2.0 eco escape (yes, not a 2.3 eco stang, but not that far off for comparison purposes) for the woman this year, think I have a pretty good handle on the 3 engines.
The V6 is all but dead up to 2500 RPM, where the ECO and GT have plenty of low end. Difference on the Eco is throttle response. It seems fine up to about 1/3 throttle, which is perfect for her. After that, there is noticeable lag vs the 5.0.
Better than most turbos, yes, but not insignificant.
I also have a lightly modded EVO VIII (EVO 9 turbo etc...) that is probably close to 380 crank, and the lag on that is 10 times worse than the eco, but the turbo is also significantly larger, so I also have a very good comparison on a larger frame twin scroll.
Bottom line is the eco is a pretty good approximation of a much larger displacement engine on the low end, but it is not just the extra HP that it is missing vs the 5.0.

Well, I haven't owned a Mustang in while. I traded mine in on an economy car in 2006. I hated to see her go, but it just wasn't practical.
A 300 horse car that gets 30+ mpg, and a Mustang to boot? I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't interested.
Sure, I'd prefer a GT, but it wouldn't suit my needs as a daily driver.
Just my 2 cents...
