Ecoboost performance package?

with an ecoboost 4 cylinder allowing a lighter more evenly weighted car, do you think we'll see a performance package with sticky tires, suspension upgrades and a 3.73 rear gear?

It could help the car compete with the BRZ/FRS, Genesis Coupe, and Miata types. I'd like to see what SVT could do with one.

Possibly. Even if Ford doesn't offer such a package, there will be plenty of aftermarket pieces to make your own upgrades.

They've sort of done that with the current V6 -- perhaps a more thoroughly developed and fleshed out performance package for 2015?

The Toyota twins and Miata are pure handling cars, Mustang's never really going to compete in that space as unless it undergoes a rather massive transformation. That said, a performance tune for the EB4 would probably sell.

Where have you been?... The Mustang is going through a rather massive transformation.

No, its going through a big generational evolution. But everything we've heard so far is that while lighter and with more advanced technology, it will continue to embrace its Mustang DNA. I mean a real break from the entire philosophy of the vehicle, like when Ford designed a FWD "Mustang" which eventually became the Probe. That's not happening, no matter how many people post "Oh noes it's the Mustang II-2!" and other such nonsense.

Agreed, I can't see Ford radically changing the formula since the car has to cover a lot of area from basic commuter to high performance vehicle all while doing so at a relative bargain.

This reminds me of the Shelby vs. Corvette argument and why for nearly the same price the Shelby doesn't meet or exceed the Corvette in every metric.

Cars that can ''do it all'' so to speak tend to be specialized and very pricey.

Seems to me the Mustang already has crossed the "sporty" to "sports car" barrier. The handling keeps getting better, a V6 Stang will already outperforms the Subi/Toy twins, the Miata and the R Spec Genesis. The feel may not be the same but the numbers are there.

A modern day SVT would be terrific!

I guess it depends on who's definition of sports car you use. Ours has a back seat. Many/most don't.
