Help!! I bought a 2019 Mustang in January 2021 and it's been in the garage more so than I've driven it! I have replaced 2 batteries, a brand new alternator and the positive and negative sensors on the battery cables. There is still a sporatic draw that is killing my battery and requires it to be jump started. It is now schedule to go to a Ford dealership next week to check the PCM.
How long does it take to discharge? Modern cars won't sit months between starts.
It varies. I picked up the car on January 17, 2021 and February 8, 2021 is the first time I had a dead battery. AAA came out and was able to jump start the vehicle and said the battery was fine. February 15, 2021 the battery died again, AAA was called and this time the battery showed it needed to be changed. So I had AAA put a new battery in. Two days later the car wouldn't start (February 17, 2021) so I had it jump started and brought it to my mechanic. Was able to pick up the car the same night from the mechanic. They cleared the codes at the time, and said that the system just may have needed to be reset whereas I changed the battery. On February 22, 2021 the car was dropped back off at the mechanic's garage due to the "charging system" light illuminating (again). This time the alternator was showing signs of needing to be replaced. It took nearly a week to get the car back because the mechanic had a difficult time locating a brand new "original" alternator for this year car. They said it was too new for aftermarket parts. Once they were able to locate a new, original alternator it took 3-4 days to get it shipped to them. I got the car back on February 27, 2021 and once again, the "charging system" light illuminated multiple times and then the car was dead the next morning. This car was, according to the CarFax, part of a Fleet in Florida then sold to a person in Leominster, MA for 1 year., then ended up at the dealership that I purchased it from. No problems were reported, but that doesn't mean anything. It currently has 40,100+ miles. I purchased it with 38,700+/- miles. It seems too new to be having this issue. I was told the starter tested fine.
I brought the car back to the mechanic and they went through it again. This time changing the positive and negative sensors on the battery cables. We thought we found the culprit and the problem was fixed. I drove the car for 4 days and guess what? Yup, the "charging system" light illuminated again and it took 2 days for the car to die!! Returned the car back to the mechanic where it sat in their parking lot for 2 weeks untouched. They felt bad, but said they did everything possible and it is time to deal with Ford. So I have an appointment for March 30, 2021 to have Ford see if they can figure it out. Talking to the mechanic at Ford, he said it may be the PCM.
I even called Ford Headquarters to report this problem and see if they had any other calls or complaints logged about this issue. That was totally a waste of my time. There are no recalls on this vehicle...I searched by the VIN #. I can't seem to find anything on-line relative to the 2019 Mustang with this type of problem. I've hit a dead end.
Really weird. I do know my wife's Miata won't start if it sits about 4 weeks. As a matter of fact, I drove it to work for her today since it has gone about three weeks since being driven.
Since I live in New England and on Cape Cod year round, I do drive my Mustang year round. I put snow tires on it for the winter months. I don't have a garage because I rent an apartment so it's outside in all types of weather conditions. I followed the link you recommended, but didn't find anything helpful to what is going on with mine. Thank you!
I had a similar issue with my 2005 GT in that if it sat for more than 2-3 days without being driven it wouldn't start without being jumped. After 2 unsuccessful dealer trips I bought a Battery Tender solar charger and laid it it the area behind the rear seats under the back window and BAM, problem solved! I drove it for over 10 years after that without an issue until I traded it in for a 2019 GT. Never did figure out what the issue was.

Any ideas?
Hi I hope this helps... I've had my 2014 mustang with computer upgrades..and a few months after having it I learned a lot by having to call AAA than my throttle body went out but because the same thing happened in fact it still did I had to jump it a lot...until I found out mustangs are very sensitive cars unfortunately I had to buy an optima agm yellow top battery made for my car but there strong as hell and great for mustangs it's lasted 2 years so far with no problems the best thing I decided to do so far it can keep up with the car. Also check Your indoor lights if not already there can be a shortage... Best of luck

You would think 17 years after the S197 models that Ford would've finally addressed the battery discharge issues, but it appears more than obvious they have not.. If you consider searching the sub-forums by selecting the search function drop down menu, you'll come across plenty of threads which directly address this topic by typing in "Dead Battery" or Drained Battery" when the search box window displays.

Yea really..you would think.. thanks for your input
What's too bad is there great cars to have, but apparently a lot of Fords cars and trucks have similar issues.. computers aren't helping... Mechanics are having trouble fixing and working on them as well but if Anyone figures out or has any advice on what the best options are to keep the car stable , I'd love to hear about also. Always good to learn more. Thanks.

What works best for myself and many others on this forum, is connecting a battery tender when the vehicle is not being used for a prolonged period of time.. The battery tender keeps the battery fully maintained and shuts itself off automatically once the battery is fully maintained..
If interested, I'll provide both a link and images for the battery tender I've used for many years with great results..
If a battery tender is not convenient or practical enough? Then I would suggest disconnecting the battery whenever the vehicle is not being used for a prolonged period of time.
