Ford Performance VVT Solenoid

I'm trying to put the Ford Performance VVT solenoid's in my 2011 Mustang GT but the connector is different. Has anyone swaped out just the connector and not the whole wiring harness.

Ok, well, this led me down a rabbit hole! Thanks, OP, and welcome to the forums!

So the 4.6L uses one kind, a 'stick'. Then the Gen 1 and apparently Gen 2 Coyotes use four of the round kind. Then Gen 3 (which was in 2018) uses one of each, but the stick is different for the exhaust ones than the 4.6L. Gotta love running changes! That was fun to figure out. Confused as to why I kept getting odd results, had to get that researched and known.

But... that doesn't really help ya. So I'm going to say that regarding 2011 Gen 2 5.0L Coyotes, the four solenoids are the same, and they've not changed the wiring/connectors in all that. I've done some lookin' about, checking part numbers and all that. The same solenoids are used in F150 5.0Ls and there's a LOT of those. No other part numbers are listed for this (and surrounding) MY Mustang and F150 5.0Ls. There's not going to be any wiring harness/connector swaps needed for these things. Not normally anyway, looks like to me.

My guess is it's somehow mis-boxed or something. I'd really like to see a pic of the connector in question on the solenoid and really would like to have a part number too, off the solenoid and not the box it came in, although I'll take that too.

You can push the images up to imgur.com and then type out the link here for us to have a gander, as I know the new, not many post users can't post up pics here directly until they get.. what, 10 posts? So do that.

Hope we can help!

Thank you for the reply. The item was boxed right. The performance solenoid use the connector for the 13 and up Coyote engines. From what Ford technical support sent me you can either replace the upper harness on the motor to the racing harness or swap out the connector ends with the larger connector. LMR sells the replacement connector's for $43 bucks a piece. I ended up getting them from my local dealer for $20 each. They come with low voltage butt connectors to splice them in.

Both. Butt connector and solder, the shrink wrap. They sell connectors that are complete 'kits' like that, butt connector with solder and heat shrink all in one, just heat after putting whires in and crimping. Solder only by itself will vibrate/stress crack apart and that'll be a fun day.

That's why I couldn't get the right info. Esoteric stuff like that... Now I know!
