Anyone Have Experience with Shelby Performance Wheels?

I'm considering buying a set of Shelby CS5 wheels (19 x 9.5) for our Saleen Dan Gurney Edition so that we can box the original Saleen wheels (19 x 9, 19 x 10) before they get damaged. The car came with 285 tires (square) and that's what I would put on the CS5's.

You probably know what I have just learned -- there aren't many 19" diameter wheels that fit S197 Mustangs. It's either a bunch of 18's -- or jump straight up to 20's. I am not interested in 20's because we live in a rural area where the roads aren't always smooth asphalt and the tires sidewalls are thin enough already with 19's on the car.

I only buy high-end wheels/parts for my collector cars but realize I may have to be satisfied with cast wheels made in China, instead of forged wheels made in the USA -- but I'm hoping the Shelby (Holley) wheels are well-made and durable.

Any opinions out there?

I can only Address the Older Carrol Shelby Wheels Company Wheels I sold From 2005-2010. These were Different Than The Shelby Razor type Wheels You Got From Shelby American Fyi for Those Who Did Not Know the Difference.

They Were very High Quality and Packaged So They Did Not Come in Damaged Like a Lot of FORD Oem Wheels I Dealt With Back in The Day.

The Holley Wheels are the Same Style as I Sold. Just Can Not Comment on Current Quality!

I would Think on a Gurney Car the CS-56 Would Be a Tribute Style to the old Trans Am Cars! Anywoo When Companies Get Sold Things Change as Far Quality & Service!

KC - you may have overlooked that the CS56 is a 20 inch wheel and I’m not interested in a 20 inch wheel. I have personally talk to Holley this morning and they confirmed that the CS5 is the only 19 inch wheel in the Shelby line that will fit a S197 Mustang.

Shelby does have a reputation for good quality, but it's probably mostly marketing hype, you could check with them where the wheels are made. I haven't heard any problems with them but have no direct experience.

For a street car, you don't really need high-end forged wheels anyway, but it you go to road track that might be a concern.

I have not noticed any shortage of 19" wheels for these cars, to the contrary that seems to be perhaps the most popular size these days.

It is strange that they put a 285 tire on a 9" wheel (on the front); I'm thinking it probably didn't come that way from Saleen. 285 is too wide for 9" wheel. borderline for 9.5" for best handling on the front

Actually - Saleen did ship a 285 width front tire on a 18x9 wheel (see attached picture from Saleen Gurney spec sheet).

Hey guys,

Thanks for the insights on the Shelby Performance wheels. As it turns out, we've decided to sell my son's 2008 Saleen Dan Gurney Edition so we won't be buying the wheels after all. Feel free to pass the word as we'll be listing it soon on all the usual car sites. However, it would be great if the car passed along to someone on this forum that appreciated it.

Merry Christmas everyone.

I'd be happy to post to Classifieds, but I don't have access/priveleges (yet).

Maybe I can reach out to the moderator, as I hoped to give the forum members first shot at the car before listing on eBay and Autotrader.

I believe you need to hit a certain post count, so the classifieds don't get filled up by bots ... I think it's not a very big number though, so get posting! ;-)
