People usually find that when they install lowering springs, the ride goes to crap since the OEM dampers (struts/shocks) cannot control the stiffer and shorter ride height very well, thus requiring a change in dampers.

As for the GT500 strut mount, Ford changed the front strut mount and strut shaft-end design for the 2011-14 Mustang, rendering any shock made for the 05-10 Mustang incompatible with the 11-14 strut mount, requiring the new mounts.

- GT500 strut mount - works on 05-14 Mustangs
- 05-10 struts have different shaft-ends than 11-14 struts
- 11-14 strut mounts are incompatible with 05-10 strut mounts
- 05-10 struts can be installed on 11-14 cars with the GT500 mounts
- There is no difference in the aftermarket struts for 11-14 cars other than the shaft ends.
- There are some aftermarket dampers available specifically for 11-14 cars = no strut mount change

We do recommend this, however we've seen customers over the last few months get away with not installing the GT500 strut mounts. Mainly when lowering your car the spring rate is going to be much smaller, that being said the GT500 strut mounts make the install a lot easier!

If you have any questions, feel free to give my CS team a call! They'd be happy to answer any questions you may have. Our Mustang Experts are here Monday-Friday from 9AM-9PM EST and Saturdays from 9AM-5:30PM EST. If you want to hit them up, their number is 866.727.1266.

I would check to see if the mounts will work with the stock shocks. I had also read that with lowering springs they recommend the GT500 mounts, so I bought them, and then was unable to put them on my shocks because the shaft was too big.

Excellent response Kn7671!

This is exactly the information the OP needs!

Should work, but AM is right in saying that the ride may be much harsher since the shocks and springs should compliment each other.

Just installed on '13 V6

I just installed a set of SR springs on my 2013 V6. The ride height is perfect! It dropped my stang 1.5 inch in the front and 1.8inches in the back. You do notice all of the bumps and the stiffness.
After a week of settling in, I ordered the camber bolts and had her aligned this morning! I am very very happy with my purchase. IMO: it is the best looking ride height.
I will be purchasing adjustable Koni shocks and struts to accompany these springs. THANKS AM!
I also installed an adjustable pan bar from JM. The drop offset the rearend a 1/4 inch. The panbar corrects this.
I also have an upper strut bar from Whiteline which may help.
Good luck! hope this helps.

Update to my previous post: After the struts and shocks blew out, the ride became horrible. I just installed the 2011 GT500 mounts and a set of Konis STR.T struts and shocks.
Major improvement.
