Nitto NT 555 issue?
Nitto NT 555 issue?
I just removed by "winter" tires on my 2013 Boss 302. I had Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ 285/35ZR19 on the rear and Pilot Sport A/S 3+ 255/40ZR19 on the front on the stock wheels. My "summer" tires on Shelby wheels are Nitto NT555 Extreme ZR 275/35/19 on all four. The Nittos are crazy loose on the back. I went driving today after I switched the wheels and if I give it even a little throttle going around a corner or accelerate a decent amount they spin. It is sunny and 67 degrees today. I don't get it. I really had to get on it to break the Michelins loose which are all season tires. I figured the Nitto would stick as well or better but I have no confidence they will stick in the corners as all. They only have about 1500 miles on them. Any ideas? Are the Nittos that bad?
Thanks,
Jon

Hmm, few questions. How were they before last winter? And how did you store them?
It shouldn't matter as much since this in a ultra high performance summer category, but you never know.
If they only have 1500miles on them perhaps heat cycling them a few times would help? Few good burnouts may be just what they need.
One other note. Pilot Sport is a great tire, so keep in mind you're comparing top of the line A/S to so-so ultra high perf summer.

They were on a different Mustang last year and not very long. I really don't remember who they were then. I bought the tires and wheels from someone and they only had about 60 miles on them when purchased. It is the first time the wheels and tire are on the Boss. They were stored in my garage and we have very mild winters here. I will take your advise and warm them up a bit a couple of times. Maybe the Michelins, even though all season tires, are that good. If the A/S stick that well I wonder what the Pilot Sport summer tires are like.
Good luck, I hope you can use them.
Yeah, Pilot SS is top of the Max performance summer category, and then there still is the Extreme performance summer category. My Hankook R-S3s were quite slippery out the first track day. After a few heat cycles they "cured" and the way they stick now is fantastic.
