Lower Control Arm Heat Shield Install

Decided to try and tackle the heat shields mentioned in this TSB
before I got any squeak.

http://luxjo.supermotors.net/MUSTANG...B%2013-9-3.pdf

They are alum, and I've done some TIG, but very little alum
and nothing this thin. So I made some bolted on brackets.
Nothing high tech, but they fit up nice, are removable (pretty
tight fit in and out), and do not vibrate audibly up through 90.

Some pics

Large nuts are SS 14-2.00 jam nuts. I used blue loctite on them.
Could only find them @ Sears hardware.
Small screws/nuts are #10 SS, used red loctite.

Brackets are 2 X 1/8 and 1 X 1/8 stock respectively.
I traced edge of each bracket to give you basic idea of shape.

Cost was
Brackets- $9.33 each
2 X 1/8 X 3 ft alum bar -$10.00
1 X 1/8 X 4 ft Alum bar - $8.77
14-2 SS nuts- $1.74 each
#10's had lying around

Also made a drawing with bracket dimensions I have yet to scan yet,
will get that up soon.

This is a superb write up. Anytime I can avoid taking my car to the dealer I'm all in.

Thanks, I agree. Even if it does not happen during warantee, what about 80K miles from now after 6 -7 summers.

Added bracket diagrams with dimensions.

That's a great job you did. I wonder how effective those pieces will be with that giant cat sitting right on top of it though. I might add these anyway.

I was able to install these with no problems. The drawings were spot on. The only change I made was to the brackets to a thinner material as it made it a little easier to bend. They were still plenty strong enough to support the shields. This is definitely a worth while mod.
