Ford Racing Adjustable Handling Pack M-FR3-MGTAA

Really like to hear from those with of familiar with this suspension and their thoughts on it.

2005-2012 MUSTANG GT COUPE ADJUSTABLE HANDLING PACK | Part Details for M-FR3-MGTAA | Ford Racing Performance Parts

Have done an advanced title search and find nothing to speak of.

I've got a non-Brembo car and am about ready to upgrade. Car's fine like it is for cruising (except for the brake dive and sky view on accel, w/is getting old) but when I hit it hard in the canyons it leaves a lot to be desired, especially when there's woops.

I know a lot of folks go w/Koni/Steeda for shocks/springs but, although I'm no expert, I'm guessing this car could use sturdier sway bars as well.

The only reviews I've read of this pack were a couple write ups on the GT350, which uses it. The authors seemed very impressed.

I'm no racer and don't autocross, but live in excellent driving country and have a ball...most of my almost 18k miles in 10 months (only 3K of those in the last 3 months due to weather) have been for pure pleasure, as I live w/in 3 miles of work and also drive a Ranger.

Also, I don't want to lower more than ~ 1".

Note, I've not upgraded to summer rubber/wheels yet, but they're coming. Thinking I'll likely initially stay w/27" on light 19's in 255/285mm, so 255/40-19 and 285/35-19 (although can't find that size rear in the tire I want, Michelin Pilot Super Sports). Only affordable wheels I find in 20-25# range are the Nurburgrings for ~$300 and Einkei PF03's for ~ $4-500, depending on finish.

Presently have the stock Perilli PZero Nero 235/50-18 on the stock front 8" w/17.5K miles and about half their tread and a pair of new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus 275/40-18's on 18x10 American Muscle wheels...these will remain as my winter wheels/tires.

You'll see the kit lists for $1800 (and that's what my dealer quoted me, too...bummer) but I've found it for $1526 delivered to my door from FordSuperCenter.com. Next best price I found was $1569 delivered from Evolution.

I've never experienced any wheel hop and these 285 Sport A/S's are the stickiest of the 3 sets of rear tires I've had (the stock 235 Pzero Neros were replaced w/in 200 miles w/the same tire in a 275 on the 10" AM rims). If, however, after new suspension and then 285 rear summer compound rubber I started hopping, I'd then look into an adj upper control arm and then if necess, lowers. If my rear was then off center, I'd also look into and adj. panhard.

After suspension/wheel/tire upgrade I'll then look towards a cf driveline. After that I'll consider whether I need more brakes. Then I may look towards a blower.

All comments on any of the above would be appreciated.

I don't think you're going to go wrong with the FRPP adjustable handling pack.

StangTV likes it:

http://www.stangtv.com/tech-stories/...pp-and-falken/

...and Shelby installs the FRPP adjustable handling pack on all of their GT350's. From Motor Trend:

"Moreover, this Shelby comes with simply fabulous Ford Racing shocks, making it one of if not the sweetest handling Mustang we've ever driven. The GT350's numbers back that claim up. Average lateral acceleration is 1.05 g and the newest Shelby ran around our patented 200-foot figure eight in 24.1 seconds with an average lat of 0.86 g."

I've been in a few cars with the adjustable shocks and have really been impressed with their performance. You don't need everything in that kit per say, but its a good "all in one" solution for someone who doesn't want to have to mess with things.

We've sold a few of these over the years and have been very impressed with the overall performance and quality. I have a customer whom we've worked with for the last few years and she is quite happy with the kit.

Thanks for the comments.

Shelby, you replaced your suspension w/this one? Interesting. Curious about the tires you're running and how you set your shocks and front sway for highway pounding...although I know your nose is a bit heavier and you've got quite a bit more motor.

Just ordered from FordRacingParts123.com.

Their price is $1400 + 98 shipping. However, they offer free shipping on orders over $1500, so I added a hunerd bucks worth of stuff to get the total to $1503 (blue coil covers and a FR banner for my garage).

Thought about ordering their FR adj panhard bar for $252 to get me over 1500 (maybe should have, would've been kind of like getting it for $154 w/the free shipping factored in) but with this only being a ~1" drop I'm not sure I'll need it.

With the exceptions I noted in my first post, every other site I looked at wanted $1600-$1650 + $150-250 for shipping. My dealer wanted msrp, $1800, + tax.

Im still running the goodyears it came with and I'm running the firmest setting on the shocks and the front sway bar. The street ride is still very nice.

My dad has that on his '11 GT. He installed it himself and raves about it. I had to scold him for testing it out with too much enthusiasm without getting it aligned or properly torquing everything, but he sure seemed to like it in its somewhat unfinished state. I don't know what setting he had it on but he said it was definitely night-and-day difference from non-Brembo stock suspension. I believe he got it on a very good sale for $1200 from LateModelRestoration, but I think $1400 is still a pretty good price.

Good to hear about your Dad's, Fork. When did he get it? LMR want's $1600 delivered, and has for the last handful of months that I've been searching.

This is the best price I've found in the last 5 months or so, have been writing them all down. Was about to go with FordSuperCenter (their rep here didn't offer it on his site until I wrote him and asked about it) when I decided to do one more price search.

LMR does sell the same pack w/non adjustable shocks/struts for $1265...for $1200, are you sure that's not the one he installed?

I gave him a call - I was way off. He paid $1500 on sale from LMR shipped. Don't know what I was thinking - probably his LS wheel package he ordered around the same time was the $1200. Sorry about that.

Now I do remember CJ Pony Parts was cheaper on the surface - it was $1425 or thereabouts, but once he got into checkout they wanted $475 to ship it...

FRPP FR3-MGTAA

Freeze -have you installed the FRPP kit yet? Any feedback? Key questions for me:
1) How off is your rear axle after install? Did you decide to get the adj. panhard? Thinking about ordering it to meet the $1500 free shipping too.
2) Hows the handling improvement when carving the canyons?
3) Hows the street ride (mine is my DD too).

Like you, I've been contemplating the same kit for months and am about to pull the trigger. I want to install it before I take my mustang back to Road Atlanta again next month for a little HPDE fun.

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

I've had it on my car for about a month now. I didn't notice much axle shift, if any, and I haven't measured it yet to verify where it stands. I do have a Steeda adj. PHB if need be, but haven't installed it yet.
2) The handling when pushing it is night & day different. The car stays flatter and has loads of grip, even when the struts are backed off.
3)I currently run mine at 3 turns off of full stiff, and the ride every day is manageable. It's definitely stiffer than my OEM Brembo suspension, but it's not a kidney bruiser either.

A friend of mine has it and it handles so much better than my GT.
I am considering this set too!

Silver, delays in the shipping but the pack left on a truck from Fl and is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Didn't order the adj. panhard, will see how the rear sits/acts when done. If I need one, I may look harder at a Watts link.

Bummer, but I may not get a chance to install for a couple weeks. Heading out of town Mon for 9 days and don't know if I can get to it before then. Working nightshift through then and have a lot of other junk to do as well.

Had a real go around w/a particular merchandiser w/Amazon. Ordered a pair or torque wrenches on 4/20. A dozen e-mails later, looks like they'll finally arrive Thursday as well.

One thing I'm looking into is whether or not I need to replace the hardware. '11 browsable shop manual states 'discard and replace w/new' on most, but a poster I'm linking below says it goes on to state as long as you re-lock-tite, ok to re-use. Still researching. This pack should include new hdwre for the sway bars. Read all about it here (hope you'll all pardon my linking another forum, but I'm too tired to re-type all this junk and it's good info);

http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...-time-use.html

Overboost, congrats. Hope you won't mind a handful of questions. Did your pack include any additional hdwr? For the rear shocks Ford parts guy says they're included on the OE's. Curious about these. Your thoughts on the above hardware discussion and what you did? Any issues/suggestions you'd not mind passing along w/the install?

Overboost, I did just read your thread that covers your purchase and rear shock install. Did you go with the FR sways?

Freeze, thanks for the thread link. I've read several on the fasteners and the key ones are the large bolts on the strut mounts:

W714652-S439 (bolts)
W714653-S900 (nuts)

The key reason is that the threads are designed to provide a locking feature that loses some of its effectiveness after the first tightening. Some locktite (blue or red?) should take care of that if you prefer, but I'm going to play it safe and replace them.

You can find these online for about $10 per bolt/nut set. I've also had good luck with my local dealer willing to match internet prices. I'm going to replace the uppers and use the camber adjusting set that comes with the kit on the lowers and still use some blue locktite to be sure. Don't want to take any chances since I put my GT on the track and failures at 140 MPH (back straight at Road Atlanta) are rather upsetting.
