Brembo 14" brakes a waste for street/daily driver?

I am a big fan of the Brembo brakes, test drove Mustangs with and without before ordering and clearly the brembo pkg stopped the car quicker and felt firmer than the non brembo, my wife also drove both and noticed a distinct difference. I ordered the Brembos, as for the SS brake lines I am also considering that upgrade.

I think I'm just going to pull the trigger and buy the Ford Racing Brembo Brake Kit. I can always use more brake and really want improved pedal feel.

Personally, I'd get suspension upgrades to lessen the awful brake dive from our cars before I bothered with brake upgrades. What I learned at racing school is that most drivers have no idea how powerful their stock street brakes are, as they never truly stand on them to see. I was amazed when I finally did that at the school (this was in a '85 RX-7).

kn7671 - I have to agree with Kyle. I have the exact Ford Racing SVT Brembo brake upgrade kit you are talking about. I only have it because I track my car. On the street, I feel no difference. IMO, you would do better going with suspension/wheels/tires, especially if your car will never see a racetrack. Oh, one more thing...this brake kit has a large amount of brake dust (front and rear) because of the compound of the pads...makes clean-up a PITA. Just my two cents, to try to help you. I'm sure you will do what is best for your application. And, if you are committed to the brake upgrade, I do think this Ford Racing SVT kit is the best bang for the buck. Don't forget to change to DOT 4 fluid.

Clean-up is especially a PITA due to the Ford Racing Forged GT500 mesh wheels you bought from me, Pete. I loved those wheels, but I certainly do not miss cleaning them.

True. But as they get dirty, it's not so terrible as a light-colored aluminum wheel would get...these kind of hide it by getting dark grey, and begin to look like the OEM GT500 wheel, so I can get away with not being O.C.D.

Tires are the direct interface that decide how much braking can be applied, but after so many miles on the 2000 cobra R brembos I put on my '97, it was a clear choice for the '12. I like how the inner and outer pads wear evenly. I like the quality of the calipers. I find the feel superior to sliding calipers. There are less problems than with sliding calipers, no external sliding surfaces to corrode. No pins to rust into the brackets (think rear SN95 brakes) The calipers' finish is better. Now after over a dozen years of Chicago's harsh environment and 150K miles on the system I have to fix the clear coat on one of the two calipers. with some careful refinishing it should be fine again. Pad changes are far easier too.

I find more confidence with them. That more of the tire is available. However, the electronic helper systems in the '12 up are far more advanced than what is in my '97. The '97's ABS is crude at best.The difference in my '97 was very apparent. Even if performance was equal (with or without brembo option) for the current mustangs I would have still gotten the brembos based on simply buying a better quality component and my past experience alone.

Oh yeah, I really like changing pads on the Brembos, its a shame the rear calipers couldn't be of similar design. I really hate winding the piston back into the caliper on the rear.
