Well my Pace Car is Race Red and I love it, and I have my Legend Lime GT but my black 89 GT needs to be re sprayed, sooooo, I think Lava Red would be very cool on my Fox!

It's really hard to get a good feel for the color until you see one in person. It looks fantastic in all lighting conditions but when the light is "just right" it's absolutely stunning. That pic is a great representation of the color but even in the pic you don't see some of the metallic sparkle that you would in real life. :-) I know it's not for everyone but I love it!

Oooh, that would be cool; do it! Black is a great base for a color change, since you don't have to worry about the engine bay.

I have to agree completely.. the best part is when you show the car to someone and they realize that it really isn't a black car and the red sparkle pops out in the direct sun light!

So glad I found one!

I would actually love to see it. My question would be... since the color is balanced out for the 2012 MY... could you get enough of the paint to do an entire car? I'm guessing so but you might pay a premium at this point.

Well we will have to see what our painter says about the paint code, he is a wizard!

There is plenty of paint available for repaints, etc. The problem is they can not produce enough to keep an assembly plant supplied. Think 1000 gallons of paint in a shipment vs quarts.

There are several suppliers for aftermarket of the same color.

It wasn't the paint itself, it was the metallic pigment Xirallic to put into the paint. The plant that made the pigment was the only one in the world to make it.

So if the factory couldn't get the pigment from them how did the aftermarket suppliers get it to make the paint. And if the aftermarket could get it why didn't Ford just get it from them.

The Merck Plant is operational again.

"The Japan-based plant that was the sole provider of a glittery paint pigment for the global auto industry – Xirallic - has reopened nearly two months after an earthquake savaged northern Japan and stopped operations.

The recovery and repair work, which began on April 4, has been completed ahead of schedule. At the same time, exceptional progress has been made in restoring the external infrastructure. Merck expects the plant will achieve its regular production output in June.

The company is also looking to make the pigment at a second plant in Germany. It plans to add capacity at the German plant by the end of 2011, which will “considerably” boost future supply reliability of Xirallic pigment in 2012.

“Our top priority is to ensure as soon as possible an uninterrupted supply of Xirallic pigments to our customers around the world,” Peter Halas, head of Merck’s pigments and cosmetics businessunit, said in a statement. “The resumption of production in Onahama is a major milestone toward this objective.”

Merck says that the Onahama facility, which is 36 miles south of the badly damaged Fukushima nuclear plant, is outside of the evacuation area, and the company will adhere to public directives to ensure the safety of employees. The company is also testing products from the plant to comply with safety standards.""

Again.. it goes to the volume of pigment available and the disruption to production if they had an unreliable supply chain.

Look for the Xirallic pigment paints to return to the color portfolio sometime in 2012/2013.

For those of you who have one, enjoy the exclusivity this has give you LR Mustang.

Welcome to TMS; nice ride. Those wheels really remind me of the '08 KR wheels.

Great looking car and you're already picking up hot Teddy bears with it.
