I have seen the same thing after tracking the car. I thought something was wrong until I figured it out. Just go off the gauge. The algorithm for the DTE isn't sound.

Only the driver can be adjusted. It's simple to do...Just a smack off the top of the back of the head will reset the display.

Umm if you read the manual it tells you it's just an estimate and not to be taken as fact.

Noooo, I'll read the manual like a novel. It's a quite enjoyable read.

IIRC when it hits 0 MTE there's supposed to be a 1 gal "reserve" so to speak. I'll see if I can find where I saw that info.

I can't count how many times I've been at 0 MTE between the 05,the 07, and the 12...

I had same issue after a track day, left track with between 1/2 to 1/4 tank showing on the gage with 80 miles to go till empty. 12 miles later the gage was on empty with 0 miles to go on information panel. I thought I tore off a fuel line or something since the miles to go was counting down so fast. Put 15 gallons in it, rest of trip home was normal.

I was noticing the same thing as you I believe. Also saw that when I took delivery of the car new that when I filled the tank it read 315 MTE, then next time 305 MTE...and so on until nowadays its 257 to 265 MTE every time. So the ECU must be learning your driving pattern and recalc fuel based on this.

So if you had averaged really good mileage for that tank, say on the freeway, then drove in the city to get to the gas station the numbers wouldn't match up, it won't adjust itself that fast.

There was another thread on this forum on the Miles to Empty calculation and I posted some results that confirmed that the calculation is based on the average MPG over the last 500 miles.
https://themustangsource.com/f726/mi...lation-522670/
Empty should occur when there is still one gallon left in the tank. The calculation assumes the use of 15 gallons. I suppose it is possible that if you drove it really easy for 500 miles and got great mileage, then refueled and beat on it for a couple hundred miles, you could cause a situation where the calculation was not reliable in the short term.

Never got low in the Boss but let me tell you how I put 27.5 gallons into my F-150's 26 gallon tank.

Yes 27.5 into a 26 gallon tank.

While towing my son's BSA Troop trailer to summer camp this year a few miles from an exit with a gas station I looked at the info center it says 50 miles to empty.

No problem, next exit is about 25 miles away so I drive on.......

Then a few miles past the exit the info center mileage drops to 30 miles............and I start to sweat, I haven't driven 20 miles!!!!!!!

Not to bad 30 miles to empty........20 miles or so to the exit.

Keeping one eye on the road and one on the info center it keeps dropping as the miles go by and as I get to the exit it says ZERO..........about 3/4 of a mile later I pull into a gas station.

It took 27.5 gallons to fill, never again will I pass an exit if I get below 50 miles remaining!
