Scott,
Thanks for the VIN lesson. So it is the eighth position (U code) that distinguishes the Boss and LS from the other 'stangs. And it is based upon the 444hp engine rather than the other unique features concerning the suspension, close ratio transmission, etc.
I take it then that current Boss VINs will be among the earliest of the 2012 (tenth position C code) model year Mustangs, but than once regular model year designation changes over to 2012 production (say by July - August) there will be a more diluted mix (larger space between serial numbers) as all 2012 model year Mustangs will be being made at that time.

The waiting is the worst part.
I got my VIN today but no scheduled production date (or window sticker). Even thought the print out has no DLR ETA WK date, the sales rep wrote a note on the paper saying scheduled week of March 14th. When I asked if that was the production week or the delivery week, he said delivery week. I hope he right. I really want to take her when I go to Bama Grand-Am race.
About how long after you got your VINs did it take to get a Window sticker?

I do not know what the total production is, it would depend on how many shifts they run and other factors. You can see total sales numbers by month and year here. Looks like around 5-6k per month have been sold over the past year. Last months number were very low.

My dealer just updated me that my build day was moved from 2/28 to 3/1. Might explain why my window sticker didn't print until Tuesday....one week out.

Mine says the same thing but from what I have read until we get some kind of rail car/truck number it means nothing more then it is sitting on the ramp. I wish differently but if Boss2x goes by again to take pictures this week the only difference will be more cars sitting in the same area.

just a tad
