All Mustangs will have the last digits in order no matter a Shelby, GT, V6 or Boss. What set the Boss apart in the VIN is the engine code, 8th number code "U" (Ford REALLY dropped the ball on this one not having a "G" code, really!). There is no order by type of car, it is possibile two Bosses can be given sequencial vin number but that would be just by chance. I have never seen 2 original Bosses with back to back VIN's.

Scott,

Thanks for the VIN lesson. So it is the eighth position (U code) that distinguishes the Boss and LS from the other 'stangs. And it is based upon the 444hp engine rather than the other unique features concerning the suspension, close ratio transmission, etc.

I take it then that current Boss VINs will be among the earliest of the 2012 (tenth position C code) model year Mustangs, but than once regular model year designation changes over to 2012 production (say by July - August) there will be a more diluted mix (larger space between serial numbers) as all 2012 model year Mustangs will be being made at that time.

It's a check digit. It's value is calculated from the other 16 digits.

All cars made as of Jan 18th (or whenever the 12's actually started, given the hold) are 2012 cars. The Boss' are mixed in with all of the other Mustang models.

The waiting is the worst part.

I got my VIN today but no scheduled production date (or window sticker). Even thought the print out has no DLR ETA WK date, the sales rep wrote a note on the paper saying scheduled week of March 14th. When I asked if that was the production week or the delivery week, he said delivery week. I hope he right. I really want to take her when I go to Bama Grand-Am race.

About how long after you got your VINs did it take to get a Window sticker?

There is no correlation between when you the get VIN and the sticker. The sticker will show up about a week before the schedule built date. You can call Ford customer service with the VIN and they can give you updated info.

Thanks Scott. Do you know if the serial # correspond with the order the cars come off the assembly line? Does anybody know the average # of mustangs produced in a typical day?

No the VIN has nothing to do with the order the car will be built. It is close but not in order, close meaning that cars being built now are in the range of 200001 to 203500. You will not see VIN's in the 20K till later on, hope that makes sense.

I do not know what the total production is, it would depend on how many shifts they run and other factors. You can see total sales numbers by month and year here. Looks like around 5-6k per month have been sold over the past year. Last months number were very low.

My sticker is up. Schwing!

The last report I got was my build day is 2/28 so looks like it's still on track.

My dealer just updated me that my build day was moved from 2/28 to 3/1. Might explain why my window sticker didn't print until Tuesday....one week out.

Mine was updated this morning: In Transit, Received Rail, Ramp 51.

Looks like it'll travel by rail after all.

Mine says the same thing but from what I have read until we get some kind of rail car/truck number it means nothing more then it is sitting on the ramp. I wish differently but if Boss2x goes by again to take pictures this week the only difference will be more cars sitting in the same area.
