Why you have to watch the dealer on service
Why you have to watch the dealer on service
I bring my car in for an "early" oil change. I think the book calls for 5000 miles but I wanted to clear it out before then.
I'm trying to be laid back with my new car but I decide to ask what type of oil they put in. I'm told semi synthtic 5-20.
I comment that I'm pretty sure we are supopsed ot have 5-50 full synthetic on the Boss. This causes a ten minute discussion wherein the serivce manager shows me the computer service records for the GT that calls for 5-20. I persist and check the manual and sure enough...you know the rest. That and the fact that the filler cap under the hood even says 5-50! They told me the 5-20 would do no harm as it is oil anyway! Obviosuly, I had them dump it.
I like the dealer but these guys really know little about these cars. This is not the first time I have been given misinformation since purchase and have checked on here or in the manual and learned otherwise. Anyway, its really no big deal thanks for letting me vent. Had I not been there and waited for the car I probably would never know about it.

that pisses me off to no end....thats why im glad my dealer has a good service area but they are only going to change my oil once( cuz its free) but im then switching brands and doing it myself ...glad you caught it though
Mine was "free" as well. Cost em about three hours of BS and time off of work this monring. Also, becuase it was free that is why I knew something was wrong. The service manager told me that since they put in synthtic I had to pay the difference from a dino oil change. To that, I said, I thought that the Boss required synthetic etc. and we went on from there.
I'll be doing my own changes in the future.
that's just typical.. yeah, unless it's a warranty issue i wouldn't let the dealer or any place else touch my car. threw out my coupons for free services and car washes. just make sure to keep all receipts especially for oil/filters
Yup. I wanted them to look at one or two issues but of course the same person who put in the wrong oil also told me everything else was fine. S

this is the part of having a new car that I hate. The rest is great!
glad my dealer is not like that. they told me up front it would have to be synthetic and 5w-50 as the car recommends...they knew before i came in...they were on the ball i guess and also that they knew what the car was and what needed to be done to it and how to handle the car. they have a special low-pro lift just for cars like the mustangs...
Now here's the weird part. Before I went in the clutch was chattering a bit or feeling like it was vibrating in the pedal just when shifting gears. It worked fine- just did not feel like it did when I picked up the car.
Now that feeling is gone. They did nothing to the clutch although the mechanic took the car out for about five minutes. Is it possible that my novice use of the clutch caused a hot spot or glazing on the surface of the clutch and he hammered the car a bit and it actually did something? This is not in my imagination. The car felt different for about four weeks and the minute I pulled out from the shop I noticed it felt better.

I took mine to the dealer for any early change as well. They did know to use 5w50. My receipt did not show the amount they put in, but I checked the level when I picked it up and it was right on the money. My only gripe is that an extremely obese and sweaty dude pulled my car around. He was literally soaked through with sweat. It gets hot as heck here, I get that, but do they have to let tubs drive the cars? My driver's side Recaro was literally damp...
I took mine in at 1000 miles.I said make sure its full synthetic 5-50 and he looked at me with a kinda stupid look on his face and said, lets pop the hood and take a look. Opened her up and saw the cap said 5-50. Imagine that! I guess thats what it takes,he says!Holly crap, really! He had the mechanic put in 8 quarts and I checked it when I got home and the dipstick was where it should be. All I can say is watch the dealer and the tech whenever you take your car in for service
the first time i had my oil changed i had to call 4 different dealers and none of them had 5-50. I ended up having my local dealer order it and i changed it myself. 2nd time the same dealer had it stock now and i had them do it and the manager quoted me for 5-20 but i made sure they put 5-50 but i got the price for 5-20. it was like $50

although my dealer will probably back me on most issues. I've had a good experience with foriegn cars as well and was actually looking at an M3 before I went for this car.
A leased car is probably more "relaxing" to own. If they dont want to fix the issue and it is well documetned you complained again and again, there isnt much they can do when you just turn the thing back over to them in 36 months or so with a rattling door panel or something like that.
My Ford Dealer has the free 1st oil change also. I wanted Mobile One 5/50 full synthetic. They ordered it for me and I wasnt charged anything for the first change. Best car Dealer I've ever went to. Bought last 5 cars from them.
Closest decent one I've heard of is over an hour drive away.
