So, after you have your gauges programmed the way you described - they will illuminate during the day at the programmed level (you chose the lowest level) and then when the lights of the car are on the brightness is controlled via the dimmer switch? Thanks to clarify if my summary is correct.
Sorry for the late reply, once u program the dimmness, it's that level day or night - @ the lowest setting it's absolutely fine for both....

Dimmer

I'm going to install my gauge pod tomorrow.I still need to know the circuit/wire for gauge illumination and dimming.I'm using the Ford Racing Autometer setup.I went with Oil Pressure,Oil Temp and Water Temp.
Thanks,Guy

What kind of thread sealant did you use for the oil pressure sender/probe?

Thanks!

Gauge install today

I'm finally getting to my gauge install and have a few questions.
I put the coolant temp sensor in the block yesterday, lots of coolant but not too difficult. One note though, the block fitting is 14MM,not 9/16 as some have stated.
I have a glowshift adaptor plate to pick up oil temp, but I really do not like how close the oil filter is to the front chassis brace with it installed.Has anyone used the oil pressure port for oil temp and both oil pressure senders?
Where have you picked up the gauge dimmer feed?
I'm using the Autometer/Ford Racing gauges in the LS pod.The gauges are oil temp, coolant temp and oil pressure.
I really want to know actual water temp and oil temp.I'll be going to Pocono on Sunday to try it all out.
Thanks in advance, Guy

I tried to use a T-fitting to use the pressure port for both temp and pressure, but I felt there was just too much hanging out. I did not want it to snap off. I also thought that the temp reading might not be real accurate as the sender would be installed in a dead end with no flow. I ended up using a glowshift adapter for oil temp. So far, so good.

I used Speedhut gauges and they come with a dimmer, so I just had to power up the light circuit.

OP sender

That's what I thought too.If there is not flow past the sensor the reading will not be accurate.Depending on the temperatures I may be adding a cooler. If that happens I'll put a temp sender adapter inline.I will just made certain that I leave enough wire to reach it.

For those looking for the pod wiring diagram here is the section from the service manual.
