Everyone needs to stop posting things the salemen at the dealer said, how many times did we get false info there.

I called a dealer (won't say which, but they never had a car on youtube) and he told they are getting one more and I should get it since there are only three more Bosses allocated to the entire Southeastern U.S. region this year!!! They got two because they are a high volume dealer

track key would never die, worst case scenario it would be off road only and they would tweak some of the settings until it passes. I would almost guarantee that they did enough testing to know the car would pass with track key before they started talking about it and they are just wading through the wait and red tape that goes with government.

And for the record, there are a lot of guys running around with aftermarket tunes that will not pass a sniff test, that is aimed at whoever it was that said what about aftermarket tuners. i know a number of guys in sniff test states that have a tune they run all the time and one only ran for sniff tests.

CAFE standards relates to average fuel economy for a manufacturers vehicle lineup weighted by sales, not emissions. CARB (California Air Resources Board) is what TracKey needs to pass, and presumably they already know it will through their testing. They just have to go through the process which takes time.

Aftermarket tunes are not major auto makers. Ford, etc. have to meet rigid guidelines that after market product makers do not. Many after market mufflers don't meet emission standards or conform to noise bylaws. Ford isn't able to do things like that, that's why many people buy after market mufflers, they just don't come loud enough from Ford.

Why couldn't Ford do what Roush did when their "off road catback" was too loud to pass testing....they left stock parts on the car and put the catback in the trunk. It was up to the dealers to install the catback, so it was dealer installed.

Couldn't Ford do the same thing with some type of computer programmer to enable the track key tune once the car was at the dealer?

Didn't realize it wasn't a "ford" option, but rather a dealer option. I hadn't really read much about them since I haven't been looking at the new cars

Im buying this BOSS302 for the reason that Ford, and the Car reviews have shown the Track Key, and what it can do. If they renig on the track key, and dont offer it in Florida- I'll be really pissed.

Is the Lumpy idle feature, a part of the track key too? I thought I saw that, but not sure..

I want my $302 track key, and want all the features that come with it.. Period.

Well I was told by a dealer, back in October, that the Boss 302 was never going to get built. He actually used the term "vaporware." His reasoning: he hadn't seen any paper marketing for it yet.

And clearly.... he was right.

I wouldn't worry. I'm sure the TrackKey is still alive and well.

Post Trackey is not for use on the street

Remember, the red key is designed for off-road use only.
Any emissions testing would be done with the stock key.
.
“From an engine management standpoint, we’ve done just about everything possible to give TracKey users a full race car experience,” explains Jeff Seaman, Mustang powertrain engineer. “It’s not for use on the street – for example, the deceleration is set up to preserve the brakes, and the throttle response is very aggressive. A skilled driver on a closed course will really appreciate the benefits.”
.
As an FRPP part they may be able to do the Trackey, but not as a factory part.

TracKey is emissions compliant according to Ford:

"despite its race course aspirations, the TracKey programming is still usable on the street. Although the calibrations are based off those used for the race-spec Boss 302R, Pericak notes both engine settings are emissions compliant -- although the quick throttle and menacing rumble of the track tuning "leaves refinement at the door."

They say it's not for the street because of drivability and it will kill your mileage.

But are they having trouble proving that?
Or does that mean it is a CAFE issue not a CARB issue?

To expand on that thought - maybe it's way to get around the gas guzzler tax and CAFE requirements. What the customer does with the car after the sale doesn't affect the original CAFE or gas guzzler calcs. hmmmm

Guys, the only issue is CARB and it will be here by July. That info is from Ford. Any further discussion is a waste of time. How's the weather?
