What was the update that you had done last week??

Officially it's late August or early September but I try and manage expectations by stating September.

What I was told a while ago by Ford's Marketing Director for the Mustang line is that when it comes out the dealer will request the program with the car's VIN and build number. That is what he said I don't know why the build number is needed. At that point it will be sent to the dealer and once installed it will self erase so that no one can copy it.

This sound to me that it is a hard copy of something not an internet download, we shall see.

He said any dealer can do it.

I was told that the car has to be hooked up to the computer while the computer is on line. The program then runs and verifies that all the info matches and then downloads the program from on line to the car and the dealer never has a copy. I heard that they are trying to avoid any rev-engineering or hacking it.

That's what it looked like to me when we ran through the menu sequences on his laptop. It brings up your VIN and then he verified it matched by looking at the sticker on the door panel before proceeding. Then it went "online" to look for available updates. I guess we'll know for certain in a month or two.

Man, I was really looking forward to that too. It would be almost as much fun as all the confusion-based threads regarding track key back in March and April. It seemed every new owner would make a new account on here and post something along the lines of:

DOOD! I just got my car today! And it came with a RED KEY, which starts the car. I have TRACK KEY!!!!11!

Edit: Subscribing in case any changes happen today

No biggie. It was actually comforting to go through the sequence with the tech and see that it's all setup for it already. This way we won't be wondering whether they can do it or fumbling around with how.
