Trackers, Please weigh in
Do any of you Trackers purchase Track insurance?
" As any High-Performance Driver’s Education enthusiast knows, ... Over the past ten years many auto insurers have changed their policies to exclude coverage for claims "occurring on a surface used for racing", "at a high-performance driving event", or "use of an auto at a racetrack".

Still covered by my insurance carrier.
- DE only
- List of any modifications
Was a customer for years.............
If it wasn't covered I would have Track Day Insurance, if you can't afford to drive it off a cliff...................

I am not covered Chris and do not buy special insurance for most track days. I should since things can go wrong quick out there. I will be getting the insurance for Daytona this Dec.
It is a roll of the dice, you have to do what your are comfortable with.

If you can't afford to leave it at the track, don't take it to the track. You can be the best driver but @@@ happens, oil, antifreeze, and you are going for a ride.

I used to buy it everytime I took my CTS-V to the track.
Technically my insurance carrier DOES cover track-related incidents, however I KNOW they will drop me like a bad habit if I ever make a claim for it. I'd rather not risk losing my good rates so I always get the track insurance.
I've been using this company, can purchase it online instantly, and they've been very good to deal with. Luckily, I've had no claims with them:

Yes. Google "Lockton Affinity" or "HPDE Insurance".

I also saw 2 cars wreck. Day 1 lightning NJMP, a lotus spun in the chicane and came face to face with the wall. Only front end damage
Day 2 Thunderbolt NJMP, a Porsche came around a corner too fast and went right into the wall. Totaled and an instructor to the hospital

Yea, I agree its probably a good thing to have.
Its pretty flat out here in the upper midwest, so trees, and even guard rails are not normally an issue on tracks. MPH that I'll be driving this weekend is pretty safe.
Of course, car malfuntions or joining someone else's spin out can always happen.

I know this thread is old, but does anyone know someone who has had claim experience with the Lockton company and how they handled it? They seem to be a pretty good deal and I've seen them mentioned on a couple of threads here. I called them today about insurance for my GT and they were very helpful in answering my questions. For the Trackguys event this weekend at Sebring it will cost me $201 ($224 after taxes and fees) to insure my car at $30k +$3k in mods.

Well worth the money. Hopefully we will never have to use it

Heres my take on it.When I was racing I had race insurance. To many factors out of my control. It paid off for me 3 times! In drivers ed it is a much more controlled environment .You can only pass with a point by and drivers are generally in a group of similar skill levels. That being said however the intermediate groups are the most risky. They have limited experience in driving solo. There is no substitute for experience .Be the most careful in this group and feel free to request an instructor at any time .My other advice is if it's raining don't go out.Thats adding extremely more risk to a risky situation. The exception would be a skid pad.(The best way to learn car control)Aways ,always make sure your car is in impeccable condition mechanically .
Also check with your insurance company. There are many carriers that will cover you. Explain it is a driving education school and it's not a racing school or a timed event.
That s my 02

I went to Laguna Seca last fall for a Nor Cal Shelby event. Twice a car in front of me blew out a smoke screen to the point where I could not see in front or behind me. Two different cars did this, both sixties Mustangs. Both times it scared the crap out of me thinking I'll either hit the guy in front of me or the guy behind me will hit me. Luckily nothing happened.
When I went to Spring Mtn for the Shelby 50th Bash I bought insurance. $250 covered me for both days with a $1900 deductible. I contacted them about the upcoming June 16th day at LS and it's $250 for the "event." If it was two days, I would be covered for both for the same price. Weird but that's how they do it.

do check with your existing carrier. my carrier, State Farm, fully covered my totalled car at a DE event (yes, the sh$% do happen...)...because it wasn't a timed event or 'race'.
they did tell me that that would be the only one they'll cover.
and with all this talk of the stuff that can, and will, happen...consider the prioritization of investments in the car and invest in safety.

Interesting. I specifically asked a State Farm agent about being covered during a high performance event, and he said it was considered racing, so not covered.
And my company, USAA, told me the same thing.
I've heard 2 people say Farmers covered them on track accidents (but agreed its probably a one-time good deal). They may not have asked the agent beforehand about track coverage, but they truthfully reported what happened, and were covered.
Brainerd has lots of concrete walls, so I feel http://hpdeins.locktonaffinity.com/ is worth it.
But if Farmers and others cover us and USAA won't, its time to go shopping.

I've bought the lockton affinity stuff multiple times, never consistently. Never had to file a claim with them, but it sure does give you some peace of mind.
