I'm in negotiations for a 2013 Boss 302 (not LS). I thought a track key came with the car and one purchased the software for about $302.00.
However the dealer told me that the Laguna Seca comes with this feature, and after some back room discussions (w/o me) I was told the key could be obtained for $800.00. I've searched without success for the answer.
Please post the correct information for the acquisition, cost and installation of software for a 2013 BOSS standard. Thanks, I have to make this deal before the end of the year so any help greatly appreciated.

Both cars come with the red and black keys. Tell the dealer you are going to report him the corporate headquaters.

They're telling you the car doesn't come with two keys? Call them out on that! Every car comes from the dealer with two keys (they're identical except for the badge on the back of it is red on one and silver on the other).
The non-included part is the software activation code packet which retails for $302 (you can get it cheaper than that at a few dealers online). Then whichever dealer you choose to have install the actual software will charge you 1-2 hours of labor to do it.

Yes...you get both keys. The red key works same as the silver unless you purchase the activation code. $302 is the standard list price for a normal parts department. There are two additional levels of parts dealers based on how much they pay Ford. These are typically high volume parts departments. I forget what they ate called. These get better pricing. Tousley Ford in MN is one of the dealers with best pricing. Ask for Steve, he is extremely knowledgeable. $800 is bunk. You are looking at $400 max, that's with a $90 install. There are no parts. You are paying for an authorization code, instructions that can be printed online and a couple of stickers required for install. It is just a programming deal that any service department an perform.
A lot of people negotiate this into their deal. I would have too, but I knew very little about it when I bought the car and the dealer knew less. I learned everything after I bought the car.

The trackey is more of a novelty for me because I haven't tracked mine. I've used it a few times since I've got it. It's really not worth the extra money IMO unless you plan tracking it. There is know night and day changes. Engine braking is a pain in stop and go driving and lopey idle is lame. Haven't tried launch control yet and I've had since it came out. Don't buy in to the hype.

Forwarded some of the info from your posts, and now dealer says both keys are included, and for about $150.00 I'll be in business with software and installed at delivery.

Now it's worth it! Just make sure they did it. I wouldn't trust them after their $800 responds.

What "triggers" the reduction in warranty? Does just having the car programmed for the key do it, or must the key actually be used?
In all my ranting and raving about getting my track key, I never dreamed I would lose some warranty coverage over it.

The Trackey is a nice option. You can disable the lopey idle if you wish, it's not mandatory when using it. I can really feel the super aggressive throttle response on the gas pedal in the lower gears. Having this alternate tune available by just using a different key is pretty slick. So far I'd say only 1 in 10 Boss owners who got it didn't feel it was worth it. Good luck.
