I put these in my car today:
Pioneer TS-D6802R
They are a popular choice amongst the base GT crowd on this forum.
Compared to the OEM speakers, they sound very bright and have a lot of bass.
I played pink noise from a cd and measured the frequency response with a spectrum analyzer in the drivers seat with the windows up. If you turn the base down two ticks and turn the treble up one tick, you get a fairly flat response with a hole in the response around 2-3kHz. Not too bad.
I'll listen to my iPod this week and see how I like the sound. Incidentally, the install is trivial.

No, with the fader in the middle position, the front speakers dominate. I'm not trying to achieve audiophiles results. Just want to hear the transients that go with string plucks and piano strikes not muddled crap.
I think they're going to be fine.

I hear you. If I can reduce the muddy bass I'll be happy.
