I thought the norm was to place it one meter away, but I'm too tired to google it.

That's how it is when measuring speakers. One meter should work.

That was while accelarating from the rear. I think idle was 72db. I'll do it again today when I go to remove the discs.

So what I'm getting is to place it one meter from the side pipes, correct? I'll do it from side and rear just to get some additional numbers.

Finally got them out. Here's what I came up with. I was standing about 3 feet away and it was a bit windy. Wish I would of done a before after vid.

Discs in/ Idle
Side- 65.7 db
Rear- 68.2 db

Throttle (up to 5k RPM)
Side- 86.9
Rear- 85.6

Discs Out/ Idle
Side- 70.8
Rear- 66.9

Throttle (up to 5k RPM)
Side- 88.5
Rear- 85.9

I love the sound with the discs out. It sounds like I bought a full exhaust for it.

That's a surprising small difference. Thought it would have been much louder. I'm taking mine out based on your numbers. Thanks for posting.

I like that as long as the decibel police are not in sight.

Yeah. It does sound a lot louder with them out. I was surprised that there wasnt a larger difference in the numbers.

My wife said she use to hear me come home in my 2000 GT. I had long tubes and off road x pipe. Stock mufflers. She said she didnt hear me come home in the BOSS with the discs out.

What were you using for a SPL Meter?

I thought it (Decibels) would be higher/louder.

Here is a chart just for chuckles (Spelling)

I just used the SPL App on my iPhone. So not sure how accurate that is. By looking at the chart though it has motorcycles at 90 db and my bike is definately louder than the car. So it might not be too far off.

For those that don't want the full sound level you get with the disk out:
I wanted a little more sound volume than stock, so I decided to drill a 1/2" hole in the disks. I like the end result. Under load you can hear the car at a decent level without being to obnoxious. Under no load the exhaust sound disappears into the background noise.

Thanks for sharing. I suspect 1/2" is where I'll start.

Drilling out the hole is a great idea for those that dont want it too loud Jeff. I dont mind it right now but I'm thinking that if I ever go with long tubes that it might be.
