Restrictor Plates

Can someone tell me wether the Restrictor plates(or whatever they're called) coming out the side on the 2013 Boss, were supposed to be removed by the dealer, before I picked it up?Or when my Trac-Key software was installed?

It's up to you to do what you want with them. The side pipes are strictly for sound.

Thanks for the info.Jeff...I have a later built Performance White Boss also.Is it true on recently built ones you need to let the paint dry before waxing and polishing?...............Jack

Jack:

I've had my Performance White Boss now for 2 1/2 weeks or so. I purchased the 3/4" hole exhaust disk. I have to say it's a fairly large improvement over stock....but doesn't cause a drone. I'm enjoying the exhaust for now....will decide what to do when I do headers and X or H pipe.

I think...as long as your car has been out of the plant for 4-6 weeks...you're probably fine to wax it. Gives that new paint some protection from the elements and such.

I purchased two replacement disks from member here...Scott ( 2012YellowBoss ). I removed the factory disks....which had maybe 1/4 inch holes in them. There is more of a rumble , snarl etc. after installing the new disks. Here's an ongoing thread that Scott has on this forum:

https://themustangsource.com/f813/an...-discs-494672/

Pretty cheap way to improve the sound....IMHO.

Good Luck,

Wayne

I took my plates out ASAP and haven't looked back.

And I waxed mine with in the first week of owning it. Clay bar'ed, washed and waxed all in one evening. I highly suggest clay barring it right away.

My own 'clay bar' story

Just picked up my Boss last night. After giving the kids a quick ride it was time to get it washed as it was dirty since I told the dealer to NOT touch it. Didn't need some noob swirling up the paint.

Anyways, I get it washed and am ready to clay bar it, and I spend 15 mins looking everywhere for my clay bars from my Zaino kit. Can't find them anywhere! Had just finished doing my daughter's new used Solara she got for commuting to college after graduating H.S. Didn't put it back in the normal spot with all the other cleaning supplies and it was not to be found.

Ok then, I can take a quick ride to the Auto Parts store and grab the cheapest box of whatever kit that contains clay bars. Found a Mother's kit for $19.99, and was out the door.

As I was leaving the parking lot I see a year or 2 old black CTS-V coupe up ahead waiting to take a right at the stop signal, in the right lane. I'm heading back the opposite way, so I roll up in the left lane. The driver of the V has his window down and is looking left to see when he can make a right on red. His eyes pop when he see's the Boss roll along side and he smiles. I give him a thumbs up for his nice car, and he says "Hey I like your car, I hear those things boogie..."

Mentioned how I had just picked it up that day, and was looking forward to seeing what it could do. As traffic cleared he nodded, then made his right and then laid into the throttle for a spirited exit. Reminds me of the new '13 Ford ad, 'Everyone has an inner Mustang'.

Jack, sorry for the delayed response but Wayne cover it well. Many people like the sound of the Boss without the restrictors, or as I call them discs, in the side pipe. Others like myself want more exhaust sound then found with the factory 5/16 size discs but not completely open. I posted different videos in the thread Wayne pointed to, you can get an idea of what the different size opening sound like.

If I can help out just drop me an email or PM here.

Thumbs up +1 for 3/4" plates

I got a set of 3/4's and they are PERFECT!!! Adds more bite and growl w/o going over the top. Was considering wide open, but I knew the wife wouldn't like it, so this is just right.

I bought the 1/2" and 3/4" ones from Scott. I ran the car completely stock for week, then switched to the 1/2" ones, then last night went restrictorless. It's actually not as loud as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it's loud, but at a 120km/h cruise they pretty much disappear. My wife will likely have a different opinion when she gets back to town, then the 3/4" ones will go in.

I must be lucky. My wife loves the sound with no restrictors. Thankfully, my 2 year old daughter loves it even more! Lots of win all around!
