I removed the license plate frame on my red front bumper (don't tell anybody), but the mounting screw holes are still there and visible. I put the mounting screws back in to fill the holes but it doesn't look very nice. How do you get that smooth from bumper look after removing the front plate holder? Bondo + paint ??? Maybe there are some red plugs I could use.

Care to share some pics? I curious to see how good they look up close.I would think the only way to perfectly fix it would be the body shop filling and painting the holes, but that won't come cheap. As long as they look decent up close it would be a cheap way to make it look good if you don't want to spend the money at the body shop.

 

The plugs aint cheap either. I bought them today. About $35 with shipping. Oh well....

If you are concerned about getting ticketed for lack of a front plate, here is an idea for you. I've never gotten any grief about mine and never had any cooling problems either.

 

I haven't had a front plate on my Lexus in years and never even got a warning, though I did get stopped for speeding. This is in Texas BTW. For some reason they just don't enforce it. Thanks for the replies. My plugs are en route to house now!

 

Well, I installed them today. The color matches perfectly, but I am a little annoyed that there is a very small gap between the plug, like 1/64", and the surface of the bumper, because the plug needs to go in a little further. But if I push any harder it just flexes the bumper. I may need to put some pressure behind the bumper and push harder to get it flush all the way around, if I can figure out how to put my hand behind the bumper. Thanks for any tips.

 

When the license plate screws were originally removed from the bumper it actually pushed a small lip ring of plastic outward where each screw was. Originally the plastic was pushed in but it was removed in reverse if that makes sense and now sticks up ever so minimally. Run you finger over the two holes and feel. You could carefully trim that little ring with an x-Acto knife and the bumper plugs would sit flush.

 

Just go to your local parts store and pick up some black push pins. These come in assorted sizes and are $1.99 for a package of 4.
Paint them with touch up paint to match and your done. Cheap and easy!
Tip: Trim the hole if needed carefully with an exacto knife and if you need the plug to fit tighter, you can wrap the pin part with teflon tape to fit.

 

Of course we all know the best way is to have a body shop fill and paint. So you don't have to look at those plugs. Maybe you can find a new take off bumper for a decent price? I know you got the plugs already. I know 35$ vs 350$ = a lot of beer

 

One of my buddies cut little holes out of a same color mustang at a Pull-a-part yard, used some JB weld to hold it in place and wet sanded until it was all smooth.

Too much work to me but it is an option
