Opinion Please...
First off thanks for sharing as I'm sure some folks may have thought about what this might look like on their own cars.
I guess it all depends on what you are tyring to achieve. Like an earlier post said if you want to try and go retro, which by the way is something Ford specifically decided against doing, then your best bet is to find a good picture of a 69 and begin shopping around for period style addons.
I dont think the current body style lends itself intially to going retro especially the 69/70 retro. If i were to make any cosmetic changes about the only thing the 2012 boss could use is the color matched side louvers and blacked out rear louvers.

I like the thought of you trying to make it your own. Thats part of the creative human nature. I would remove those because to me, it looks "after market" and not factory.
That said, try to achieve a ford factory look like some of the above have posted.
Bottom line is, its your car, you have a right to do whatever you wish with it. Keep trying and lets see what it looks like. But I think you did the right thing by asking here. I will do the same if I do anything to my Boss for sure, whether I agree or not.
Always good to get second and third opinions. Get someone who is not mustang bias such as a buddy that likes cars in general and see what they have to say about if they like it or not.

yea, i was kinda not feeling it after i put them on. something just seemed "not right" as i keep lookin at it. i just wanted to make sure i wasnt loosing it or something. i should have some time sunday to remove them. i was thinking about the actual chrome letters that they put on the 69's but wasnt sure of those either...and they were more expensive...i only paid $10 for the ones i have on now. i think you all confirmed what i have been feeling. so what do you think about the actual chrome ones? try or dont even think about it?
Like others have said, the letters are too big. Also the actual letters on the 69-70 have guide pins on the back that go into holes in the trunk lid, so you would have to get rid of them (but I guess they probably make them that are just stick on now too). The face of the trunk lid is not as tall on the new ones as the 70 trunk lid (from the top where it kicks up to the lower edge of it) so there is even less room there for letters.
To give you an idea...

.Those are the best ones I have that show it right now, but I can take some better ones if you want them.
And here is a diagram of where they went on those cars, it might help you some with spacing and placement.

Also, found this old thread on trunk letters on 05-09s that might give you some ideas.

The scale of those letters is ridiculously too big.
If you use the original classic M U S T A N G letters which are available as stick-on you will have a more authentic look. American Muscle has these letters. http://www.americanmuscle.com/mustan...k-letters.html
I did this to my 08 and matched the spacing on the decklid to look the same as the 69/70 Mustangs. Some people do not space them correctly but the way I have it puts the M and the G in the correct place in relation to the top inside corners of the taillamps just like the 69/70 models.
The four years I had my 08 Mustang I enjoyed the classic look of the letters. I recently got my 10 model but I have not been motivated to do the same with the updated body style as I am unsure if I even want them.

i was originally thinking about the actual chrome letters. i can get full stick on's at cjpony. they are replacement for 69-70 cars. i was originally going to do the lettering to my 2006 but instead i went with the retro mach 1 look with the stripes around the rear top portion. i think its agreed that i remove the existing letters on there and hope that i will have time this weekend to remove them.
i dont like the rear louvers too much so that will not be an add-on. the sides i thougth but again with the original there is a solid metal piece in that area, the side window is incorporated along with the drivers window and such...so not sure side louvers would be a good choice either.
thanks for the suggestions.

There are 3 things you need to do if you really want a retro look. 1-You should get the pedestal spoiler you would find on the Laguna Seca. 2- The lettering you used is too large. 3-You would need to somehow incorporate separate backup lights on the lower fascia. You could even add a rear window black louver if you want to go all in. In the absence of these mods, I would recommend getting rid of the lettering as the scale is wrong. The car rear does not look rught.

I think the Mustang letters look good on the back. If I did not know the Mustang came without the letters on the back, I would have thought it was factorey installed. The larger letters look much better than the small letters. Your Mustang looks truly unique and is easily identified to the uninformed that it is a Mustang. For those who are sight challenged, they can still see the Mustang letters. Good Job, well done.
