oil usage percent indicator

Have a 2013 Boss with 2100 miles on it. Just had my second oil change nine months and 1100 miles since my first oil change. The oil indicator showed 40% oil life left. Seems low to me for only 1100 miles since last oil change. My first oil change I used Motorcraft 5W 50 synthetic oil. No leaks. oil dip stick showed I was down about 1/2 quart. Any thoughts - Bob

Have you been resetting the oil life every time you changed your oil?

Mine loses oil also with no leaks and the proper amount. Do these cars normally burn a little oil over the lifetime of an oil change?

Yes, that is why it is recommended to get some sort of catch can but the 5.0 is engineered to burn some oil as are a lot of engines.

The oil life is also calculating time as well as mileage. Mine comes due after 12MO even with 3-4K miles since last change.
Mine also burns about 1/2 QT between changes.

the oil life monitor on the new cars calculate in temperature, run time, engine revolutions, miles, idle time, cold starts, and many more things. its actually very safe to go by. if you do a lot of highway miles your oil life will go more miles before it says to change than if you do a lot of racing and city driving. older vehicles went by mileage but newer cars dont.

You can drive it 90 miles in 12 mos and it will still decrement the life according to the age of the oil. The wonders of modern technology.

Thats a nanny that makes more peolpe more confused than what its worth. I pay no attention to it and change my oil according to mileage and what the car has done.

So would it be safe to say that Boss owners need to add a little oil in between oil changes (on a daily driven Boss)?
