There is mobil 1 5/50 in my local walmart right now.....

Just got back from my local dealer and they did not have the 5w-50 oil i needed. I call another dealer near by and the lady (of course) didnt know what i was talking about, left a VM for someone. I doubt I'll get a call back

Nice!^^ I can't find 5w50 Mobil 1 in any Walmart around WNY. I can't find it on Walmarts website even. I used Mobil 1 5w30 in my 06 Mustang and it was cheap to buy at Walmart. I ended up buying Motrcraft from my dealer at $7.95 a quart.

Excellent work TMS members. I will hunt down Mobil 1 5/50. This will be my oil of choice for my Boss. Thank you for the heads up on Mobil 5/50.

I called 2 dealers and 2 race shop and no one had 5w-50. Luckily the first dealer i called said they could order it and have it delivered in 2 hours. By some strange miracle they came through but it was too late for them too do the oil change so i just bought it and came home with it. My Uncle is a Master mechanic for Toyota so later on today im going to his shop at the dealership and just do the oil change there and change the brake fluid to DOT4.

Side note-- the Boss 302 that I tried to buy 6 months ago is still there and but now the dealer is asking $3k over MSRP for it. I tried to but it for that price back in march and the owner said no.

Just a comment on the above threads on the Ford "racing" filter. There was an earlier thread on which filter "type" is the best for our application. An owner presented a picture of the OE production line filter, the FL500S filter and the FL820 filter all of which "fit" our application but have noted visual differences.

The OE filter (which I just changed in my car yesterday) is noticeably smaller than either the 500 or 820 but has fairly large intake (?) holes relative to the other two candidates. This got me to wonder which is the best.

I talked to an inside Ford team member and posed the question, should I run the FL820 type filter as it appears bigger (larger diameter) implying more filter media and maybe better filtering capability. His comment was the 820 is an "old" filter design and he really recommended the newer FL500S for our Coyote/Roadrunner 5.0 application.

I might consider a Ford racing 500 type filter but the above link appears you guys have focused on the 820 style. Just a bit of info before you launch. I continue to use the recommended FL500S.

Take a look at kmanparts.com. They stock OEM parts, filters, fluids, etc. And at great prices....

I noted the same difference between stock filter and FL-500S in terms of oil inlet hole passage diameter - that has got to be better in my mind....wonder who made the filter for Ford that was supplied with the car from factory, and if they are available aftermarket?

Rusty, I wondered the same thing- why is the filter supplied OE with the engine not the FL500 recommended filter. The as the shipped filter is quite a bit smaller than the 500. My contact only said application of that filter had something to do with the "assembly line build" (clearances, rototics, assembly line cradel, ?????) and that you probably would not want to use it after the intial change out. I do not even know where you could find this filter as all it says on the outer case is "FORD".

Again, he recommended the newer style FL500S for our roadrunner engine.

And Chris, from your helpful link above, you will pay $8.28 per quart for the Mobile 1 5W-50 (which may or may not meet WSS-M2C931-B) and yet the actual Ford Specified (and spec compliant) Motorcraft oil is priced at $7.59 per quart ( http://k-mansparts.com/items/motorcr...qgt-detail.htm). Both of these mail order houses will probably add shipping charges as well. If you are "well connected" with your Ford dealer you can buy the Motorcraft oil at the counter for about $7.98 a quart (plus sales tax) but avoid the shipping charges. Again everyone if free to pick whatever oil they want to use in their engine. I just do not understand why you want to spend more for a lubricant which may or may not have the lubrication attributes originally envisioned by the Ford engine design team. But go ahead and buy the Mobile 1 if that is what you want...
