No Sync in the Boss 302?!?!? WHAT?!?!?
I know very little about car audio, but I am already afraid that the stock Boss stereo and speakers will suck. Will adding decent speakers and nothing else substantially improve sound volume or quality? I'm going to be removing the attenuating disks from the side pipes, so the stereo will need some oomph to overcome that. I don't need thumping bass, just enough volume for some classic rock.

I used this with my 08 car, and was very impressed. you punch in your car, and Crutchfield will tell you what works, and what doesn't, and what you need adaptor-wise. I'll pull my AVIC unit out my 08 when I trade it in, install the adaptors to go double-din, and upgrade the speakers, and have my Sirus and backup camera in teh B2 car. Can be done in a weekend by a novice (which I am) and looks stock, and can be returned to stock very easily. Also, you are not going to be adding any weight.
For myself, I need the bluetooth the most, along with the audio. I WILL NOT drive holding a phone to my head.
Just changing the head unit in my 08 car made a very large difference. My understanding is that doing the same with quality speakers is the same, above the stock ford papers. The installation has gotten simpler in the last few years also.

Why would you want a nav screen and sync in a track made car?? If you want all the fancy gadgets and not going to track it don't get a boss or if you want all the fancy gadgets and want to track your car get a gt premium and make it track worthy yourself for way less money and it will look better to! IMO

It's my money, anyone that wants to tell me what to do with it can GFT.
I live in Lake Elsinore Ca , home of the BRO Truck.. I get passed by Trucks with 10in of Susp lift and 8 more in body. 99% of these trucks have never seen a dirt driveway much less the desert or Mud.
I am at ends with the GT Prem or the Boss and the reason is exactly why you stated. I dont intend on tracking what I buy. I have a built track car (6 months ago it was supposed to be a DD) but now it has built motor down to ARP everything.
I think the allure of the Boss IS that you can use it to DD but can drive right to the track and hand people their asses if so desired. I do understand what the OP is saying though. Its 3+ hour drive to the track and another 3 back and if I didnt have my Navi/Rockford Fosgate in my car then those 6 hours of driving wouldnt be as pleasant. I dont know about most but I like to relax on the way to the track cause as soon as the helmet goes on.. its over..
And I do play music while on the track... Hip Hop gets me hyped up so it works for me..

If your nuts were bigger maybe I'd notice I was stepping on them.
Maybe reading comprehension isn't a subject heavily focussed on in your part of Canada, but maybe it's something you should work on. You seem to be arguing with everyone even when they're not arguing with you.
Maybe the problem isn't us.

To me, this is really a track car first that is also livable on the street. To that end, I have 1. A Bluetooth headset that connects directly to my Droid phone - look ma, no hands - and 2. An iPad for nav and track functionality (and if you've never looked into what you can do track-wise with an iPad these days, you owe it to yourself to do so). I cannot imagine adding subs, etc.. to this car, and I can't see this car as really being for anyone who wants to go Boom more than they want to go Fast. It's a race car, and if you don't subscribe to a racer's minimalist mentality in terms of creature comforts, the GT's and Shelby's are over that-away. It's no slam or insult one way or another. That's just not what Ford built this car for.

Many if these posts are daydream speculations by people who cannot wait to get their cars and are enduring the wait by thinking about what we'd like to mod. If the stock stereo and speakers are fine, then I'll happily keep my money. I understand the minimalist argument, but I wonder how many of you are going to remove the ac, stereo, back seats, carpeting, passenger seats, and all the other unnecessary accouterments to save weight on the track.
I agree with most of the "its a race car" but with electric windows instead of manual there is still room for it to be a "race car".
I think that for those that are looking to competitively(for $/prizes) race I doubt they would buy a complete car rather than build. So that leaves you with events like Time Attack and HPDE... Those are the events I attend and at that level my factory sub and Navi unit arent a concern.
I think that this car is that excellent median of true track car that you drive to and from.. I think Ford did an excellent job.

Thanks .., I am enjoying it immensely.. There is no lack of information for sure. I am just anxious to get out of the desert and home to my cars... and I am trying my hardest to get my wife into a '12 Premium V6.. just found out they are 5 star crash rated.. even more ammo..
I'll start off by saying I'm probably just repeating what everyone else has said by now...
Honestly, the lack of sync is something of an annoyance but not really a surprise to me - or a deal breaker when it comes to ordering one. The Boss is pretty much an 'all business' affair; take a stripped down Mustang GT, add in a whole boat-load of go-fast goodies, beef up the engine, suspension and brakes, and you really don't have a lot of room (strictly financially) for all the options. A fully optioned 2012 Mustang GT coupe comes in around the $42k neighborhood. A Boss 302 with the Recaro / Torsen diff option is $43,5. If you loaded a Boss up to the loaded GT level, not only would it weigh a lot more but it would by necessity have to cost as much as a GT500, which doesn't make any sense for Ford.
Also remember that the way a car works is that there are option packages. You can't get certain things with certain packages in order to save money on build costs. Complete customization isn't possible without making the car horribly cost prohibitive to build. And there is no "manual window" Mustang. They'd have to redesign the car to put in crank windows, and a crank mechanism weighs as much or more than an electric (see the Dodge Viper).
That said, if you really want an insanely fast car with all the trimmings, buy the GT500. A 2011 can be had for not much more than you'd pay for a Boss, and if you're the type to get hung up on the Boss' lack of options then I think that'd be a more appropriate car for you.
The Boss 302 is sort of like a Lotus Elise (or Exige). It is an unabashed track performance vehicle that can be driven on the street. No heated seats, no leather, minimal radio, and I think if they could get away with it, it wouldn't have cup-holders or power windows. I sort of admire this about the car. It may turn some people off, and that polarization is part of the appeal.
Anyway, that's my opinion on the subject. For what it's worth I have a YB Boss 302 on order and will be losing a lot of daily driver comfort coming from a loaded RX8, but I think the performance trade off is completely worth it.

I'm also not planning on driving at track events, since there are none nearby.
