The reason it's only available through FRPP is almost certainly to avoid issues with federal DOT or EPA requirements....most likely MPG to meet CAFE standards.
This.

"The Truth About Cars"

So...So... review....actually kind of lame........

WTF now I'm supposed to feel guilty about buying this car?

The Climate?

So I’m supposed to run out and by an Electric Car or a Hybrid?

What is he smoking?

Where does the electricity come from the Tooth Fairy?

It all comes from fossil fuels you dumb A$$!
This is my problem with TTAC. How is this car not relevant? It's the best Mustang built to date, and then with perfect opportunity Ford again pulls out an emotional heritage model. Since when have Mustangs like this been built for the Camry driving public? Stimulate the economy? Does no one think about halo cars anymore, even Toyota gave in to make the LF-A. Ford is doing what they can with what they have. If the concern is about electrics or hybrids, which studies are showing to be a long term detriment, then maybe you shouldn't be reviewing the Mustang Boss. I'm all for free press and other people's opinions. But to comment on what the car is not doing, not on the track, but for the overall automobile society that we are, just isn't fair for the car or the company. If you were there to review a Prius, you wouldn't think to yourself, man this sure could use some Porsche like handling, this car is totally irrelevant. Sorry, I'll step off my box.

Edit: You forgot this quote though and how the article is 98% blessing the Boss.

"That doesn’t mean I don’t want one, and if you have the chance to drive the Boss, you are likely to want one, too — even if your current car is an M3."

Don't act like you aren't going to buy it...

and as stated above, they most likely had to set it up this way to meet standards. If it came with the car, MSRP would probably $302 more and none of us would care because we didn't know.

Cloud9 is correct about the track key on all counts.

And FYI--you get the key with the car, it's included in your MSRP!

(The $302 is the fee for the dealer to unlock the software that makes it do anything)

Moreover, anyone that's having trouble spending an extra $300 on a $40k+ car, you might want to rethink your order altogether.

Your wife/kids are gonna starve to death while you're out playing with your RedKey

Hum, maybe but for now I'll have to wait. My dealer is not a Ford Racing dealer.

So far we know the program gives you a loppy idle. +, increased throttle response +, increased gas consumption -, and no increase in peak HP -.
I like to see a dino graph with both keys to see if there is any increase of midrange HP or torque.

I’m already paying a $500 ADM that I’m not happy about. It would have try to talk the dealer into including the track key program, but I can’t because they are not a FR dealer.
