More power!!! Help!!

Ok so ive been debating over how to mod my boss. First thoughts and plans were full bolt ons and cams. After some reseach and a lil math.... Im leaning towards supercharging instead. Question is... If i go f/i and only do a hiflow or catless mid pipe and a good cold air set up (no headers) will it damage the engine? Do the stock manifolds flo enough for low boost psi untill i can do headers? What else HAS to be done to run a centri supercharger at low boost with a good tune with out damage to the engine? What power level will that be close to? Complete newbie to f/i so any info sugestions would be appreciated.

You don't need headers but they will help. Check out and see what kits Roush offers. I'm sure their kit will include everything you need. A blower in a Boss is a great combination. A blower kit would really be all you need in it. If you're still under factory warranty, you can go through an authorized Roush dealer and retain factory warranty also. I don't think the Ford Racing Whipple kit even offers that.

Id be fine with that as long as its a centri-self contained or whatever you want to call it as i really am hell bent on keeping the boss intake. I love the looms of a roots style blower but then i loose the intake.

There are two things to think about when modding these engines. One is what can you do that won't cause the engine to self distruct. The other is bang for your buck.If you search the forums and believe everything you read about these motors you would not do any mods and drive like an old lady because these things are fragile. Not true these motors are pretty tough and made to take all sorts of mods without hurting it. Your best money would be spent on intake and exhaust. Cold air intake and a low restriction cats headers and a custom tune from a reputable tuner. If you really want to step it up a notch go with a twin screw charger with 10 psi or less boost. The intake and exhaust method is worth 50 to 60 rwhp. A twin screw charger with 10 psi is worth about 200 rwhp. Hopefully others will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

I hear you but I'm not sure if even the Boss intake will hold up to boost. Maybe but I'm not sure. I would contact Vortec and ask those guys. Maybe they make an upgraded plenum gasket or something. Vortec would be the only centri blower I would use btw. Procharger just doesn't produce the numbers and Paxton just doesn't hold up compared to Vortec. Either way you will never go back to natural aspiration again after this. Really hoping you do it and give us a full report afterwards.

Well the Boss is forged and has been proven to hold up to 700+hp so it should be safe with a good tune. The 5.0L GT motor, not so much.

I had a long conversation with a reputable tuner about that style of blower and was talked out of it. I had the same Idea of keeping the Boss intake.

Have not been on the dyno yet. Going to do some data logging next weekend. Dyno time is 30 days out most places around here. The set up I have is 10 psi max should add about 200 hp.

With a BAP, 72lb injectors, and catless x pipe, on 12lbs of boost you should be in the 600-625RWHP range on a Mustang Dyno and 630-645 on a Dynojet. MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL AN ATI HARMONIC CRANK DAMPER an or upgraded oil pump gears. Early tuners found out the hard way that the Coyote/Roadrunner has fragile oil pump gears. I think Ford Racing even offers upgraded gears. With a TB, 14lbs, and C16 race gas, 675-700RWHP on a dynojet is possible! HAVE FUN!!!

Justin the owner of VMP has a Boss. They are a SCT tuning dealer they also build mobile dynos. So who actually does the tuning programming I could not be sure but they supplied me with the base tune preprogrammed in a SCT scanner tool.
