Impromptu meeting of Boss 302 and Roush 427R
Just had a very interesting drive today where I got to dice a bit (+/- 60 miles of travel) with a 2010 Roush 427R 'stang. Nothin' outrageous, but suffice to say that we attained some speeds that had the State's finest been made aware would have had us enjoying our next few meals at one of their wonderful county facilities, until someone could have thrown our bail. The Roush supercharger on the 4.6 modular V-8 has a sweet ring to it, but IMHO, the Boss's NA Coyote howls more like a muscle car should. Temptation is a horrible thing, but if you must give in to it, its best to do so with a similar likeminded individual, powering a comparable vehicle. Testosterone likes company.
Afterwards, we both stopped at the same exit for gas (the ONE downside of the journey - fuel consumption) and had a few minutes to chat and show off each others rides. Roush makes a very nice aftermarket package, as does Ford with their factory effort. Got to say I fall into the Boss category though, it is just what this old boy needs to make my day. No bolt on goodies, no luxury, just 100% competent performance.

The 427R is equivalent to the Boss in terms of raw output, but it redlines at 6000 RPM on the old 4.6L platform.
They really are quite different especially considering the similar power and torque numbers, and that they are essentially based on the same car.
The Boss revs more freely and has a lot more top end. The Roush has more of an "old school" feel with the 5-sp transmission and short shifter, and sound.
Both handle great and would make perfectly good daily drivers.
I'd pick the Boss for a race but the Roush for a cruise.

@upstateGT,
Judging from your sig: 2012 Boss and 2010 Roush 427R you already have chosen, and not one but both. Envy... yes, and agreement on your e-val of the two similar beasts.
@Glenn,
Say no more, say no more. Why of course it was a course, and we pitted. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

Is there something specifically to which you are referring regarding the engine or suspension performance?
the car i traded for my boss was a 10 Gt premium with a roush m90 blower, VMP 500hp kit, and a ton of other mods. it has koni yellow dampers, steed sport springs and more parts than i can recall. that car on the special VMP tune and smaller pulley put out 7-8psi boost at redline and put down 420 whp and roughly 400 lbft torque. on the stock pulley the car had in the area of 380whp. basically a stock 427r has a bit more torque and the same whp as a 11-12 GT.
the boss i have no has slightly less torque than my 10 did and the same hp rating NA with headers, a catted x, cai and a tune. my boss handles batter than the 10 did with the suspension mods, which are depending on who you ask better than what roush puts on its 427r from the factory
