Exclamation Had my engine replaced...

Long story made short:

I had the infamous tick/rattle noise right above 1000RPMs. I took it in for the tensioner belt TSB thing and it didn't go away. They found a leak near the manifold and fixed it. The sound still didn't go away. It was escalated to an FSE and he couldn't figure it out either. Bottom line: 6 weeks later, engine replacement done. Noise is gone. Yippie!

I'm happy it's fixed , but I'm worried about the resale value and keep wondering if it really was a brand new Boss 302 engine that was put inside. My paperwork shows engine assembly part #CR3Z 6006 D.

Does anyone know if this is an honest to goodness Boss 302 roadrunner engine?

BTW: Right below the intake, there's a date engraved on the metal showing 1/26/13

I bet they replaced either the entire engine or at least the rotating assembly.

Remove the coil pack cover on drivers side. Underneath is a sticker that will say its a BOSS and also the production run of the engine.
Hope this helps.

Thank you, Jason. I am surprised how easy it is to pull that cover off. Word to the wise: wait until she cools down completely because that area is hotter than hell after a short drive.

I pulled it back and sure enough there was the sticker.
It read "BOSSM" not "BOSSLM" like yours. I wonder what the difference is? I saw the word Boss so I'm satisfied, but I'm still curious about it. Does the LM stand for Laguna Seca Model?

Thanks again for the help,
Ray

I wouldnt think it would hurt the resale.. Its a brand new engine installed by a ford certified dealer. I think no one would know the difference if you kept your mouth shut.

So, was this replacement engine a short block? What happened to your numbered plate with VIN on the original BOSS intake is what I'm getting at?

While I can't be 100% on this, I am reasonably sure that this is a complete long block, and that all intake, wiring, coils, spark plugs, accessories, exhaust, etc, ad nauseum, will be swapped to the new engine.

You got a brand new long block, man, and that will not hurt your resale since it was done under warranty. Especially considering the fact that the old long block WOULD hurt it, with all that tickin'...

Worry not.

How many miles did you have on the original engine? Glad you got it replaced on their dime!

I disagree with all of these posts. I think it totally ruined the value of your car. Since I'm your friend, I'm willing to trade you my gt.

The numbered VIN plate is just an engine cover that they swapped over to the new engine. Yeah, I was concerned about that too, but they assured me I'd keep it.

This happened at 1200 miles. The ticking was getting more pronounced as went over 1000 miles. I'm happy they took care of me too. The break-in period starts all over again. I just hope it doesn't start happening again later with this engine too.

I completely agree. When/if I ever decide to sell it, whoever buys it will be glad to know they have an engine that works perfectly without ticking.
