I was getting my car smogged the other day and the tech was going to check something with gas tank and I have a locking cap. I told him that if he wanted to open it he was going to have to shut down the motor and get the key to open it. He just smiled at me and grabbed some channel locks and squeezed the cap and it poped right off.

He said that the locking gas caps just keep the honest people honest and that all of the crooks know about the channel lock trick.

Your Mazda and Infiniti are no safer just because they release from the inside, its easily circumvented.

I'm glad Ford has rarely had internal releases, waste of weight and they don't protect anything. I hate it when I forget to release the cover in my WRX and have to go back to the driver side of the car...

Thought modern cars had a 'grate' to make syphoning impossible.

Putting stuff in, another story...
