Has Europeans forgotten how to drive stick shift? I don't understand why their results were so different from the mag reviews here.

Hmm, a Euro mag choosing a Euro car that they unapologetically drool over time and again? I smell bias, and it isn't the brakes...

i didnt think it was going to win, theyre not going after raw track-times here.

although shouldn't it feel good that they're actually COMPARING a Mustang to these high-end german sports-cars, and for the most part getting many positive comments? Hell even when the pre-2011 GT500's were getting reviewed by the Brits, they were tearing it apart. Just the fact that they are putting these cars on the same level says a lot about it. Whens the last time you've seen a Camaro, M3, S5 and C63 comparison?

Evo is arguably the most well-written, even-handed car magazine on the planet. I don't think it should come as a surprise that the substantially more expensive M3 is the better car. It's a victory for Ford for even being compared to these cars.

Good article but I'd challenge that 1/4 mile time. I've run 12's at the track in my 302 without any mods except the discs out. Also how much are these other cars to compared to the 302? 15k-20k more could do a lot of mods IMO. Boss -- best bang for the buck. ;-)

For the Mustang to be considered and compete in that group of cars is a big win in my book. Their bias is also influenced by the price they paid for a "grey import only" Boss 302. On the US side if you convert $43,000 into Euros it equals 31,250 not the 45,000 Euros they paid.

I agree with the perspective that it is impressive that the Boss is holding its own, usually against more expensive cars - sometimes vastly more expensive cars. I just read the latest Top Gear and you should see what the Boss is pitted against: Ferrari FF, McLaren MP4-12C, Porsche GT3 Rs 4.0, Bugatti Veyron Super Sport WR...wait, Bugatti VEYRON? How did the Boss even get invited to that party?

When all was said and done, the Boss landed somewhere around last place. Who cares? They had very little ill to say about it. They harped quite a bit on the live rear axle and they thought the interior was bland (as do I), but they were full of praise for a package that is fast, full of joyful noise, and is a "proper driver's car (and) we're not going to qualify that last statement with 'for an American car', either."

I wonder if they adjusted the dampeners for the track session? They talked about using the Trackey, but I didn't see any mention of dialing the shocks up.

Agreed, I think its a major win for Ford just for the fact to be compared to cars that are an easy $20k more than the Mustang. I think the next Mustang in 2014 or so will correct a lot of the issues they had with this car.

For us in the M3 crowd it goes to show how good the M3 is, a car going on its 5th model year and competing against newer competition and winning still. There are a lot of guys on the M3 side would love to have a Boss as a nice track toy.

Jimmy- What TG was that? I don't have a subscription, but found the two on ebay including a road test of a white car, and the one where they drive the Vette, a Charger, a Camaro, and a orange B2 from NYC to NC.

Is there another article?

People also forget that although the M3 is on its 5th model year, the Boss is built on the 7th year of the same chassis, and just like the S197 got the Boss, the current M3 just got a refresh with the Competition Package.

Here's a couple of quotes from that forum. LMAO...What if it's not "beyond reach" and you still purchased a Ford? Does that mean you're still a redneck?

"I totally have to send this to 5 of my red neck Ford friends here in Halifax. I'm sure they'll see some way of twisting the results in their favor.

M3 or bust!"

Response:

"They will just remind you that there is a $20,000 difference between the M3 and the Boss 302. I didn't expect the Ford to beat the M3, it's a nice alternative for those that $60k+ is beyond reach."

I've had a M3. Better car, overall maybe if I ignore reliability issues. More fun? Not a chance.

Dean - it's this month's TG. I got it about a week ago. It's a pretty good article and I thought they were quite fair to our Boss.

Is it September's issue? I'll start trolling ebay and amazon.

Yes, the 1/4 mile times were off, and I did not notice that they looked at the shock dampning. I wonder if this would have made much difference or where they had it set?

The Benz is really ulgy IMHO. What I have learned from the comments at the M3 website is that we and they should probably just learn to disagree.

The more fun part is what drove me to the Mustang and Boss. BMW's are a dime a dozen where I live and I prefer the Audi styling better. The M3 is an awesome car and a better car there's no doubt in my mind. My Boss is a weekend fun car for me and I wanted to maximize the fun factor. I have no regrets.

The E9X M3s are one of the most reliable cars in its class..the S65 powerplant has been almost flawless.

From the list of cars it looks as if you had a 335i, this car had a ton of issues due to the HPFP.

Don't worry, I remind them of their fanbois status. There are also a ton of guys that really respect the Boss, those are the ones who drive their M3s at a track not the ones who just drive the M3 for some sort of status symbol. If you really read through that forum regarding Mustangs you will see a lot of people come to the defense of the Mustang. However, its a BMW site...what did you expect? Not every site can be as gracious and fair as this one..
