Dyno testing stock vs trackey vs aftermarket tunes

Just got the last tune emailed to me for this test. Tomorrow I am installing a Centerforce DYAD clutch and once its broken in I am going to make 8+ pulls on the dyno read on below.

the car will be ran soaking hot in all the runs...no ice downs and no tricks like I think the mags do. Just to rule the ****ty gas out that I get around here I will be running a bottle of torco fuel additive to raise the octane.

So here is the list of tunes to be ran

Stock
Trackey
AED w/ Stock CAI
Steeda Reg Idle w/steeda boss CAI
Steeda Lopey Idle w/steeda boss CAI
AED 93 Performance w/steeda boss CAI
AED 93 Lopey Idle w/steeda boss CAI
AED 93 Drag w/Steeda Boss CAI

All test will be ran with Magnaflow Comp Cat back in place.

I think I will buy a hero 2/3 or similar to record the whole thing and have someone edit it for me as I dont know how to do that. Any takes on the editing?

I will do this test again at some point at the drag strip.

Can't wait for results, are you testing with hood open ?

There's a guy on SVT that keeps insisting that the CAI only does better because the fan flow straight into the open air cleaner..I don't agree.

My black Key produced 5hp more then trackey, but trackey produced more torque.

hood open as the sensors running into the engine bay. I could half close it to the state when first popped I think. but you cant simulate the air flow of a car moving at 60 plus mph on a dyno with a box fan...

Agree with the CAI comment.

Prediction:

1. You will see no statistically significant difference between Track Key and Silver Key tunes.

2. You will probably see a gain of 10-15 hp with the aftermarket tunes. However, while such an aggressive tune is fine for a 10-12 second blast down the quarter mile followed by a cooldown, you wouldn't want to run it for an hour on a road track.

Just browsing and I saw this thread. I guess the big dyno shootout never came to fruition?

Boss2511-

Your testing protocol looks pretty good and I look forward to your dyno results! I have been following the performance aspect of our engine for a few years now and have seen a number of dyno results. Your location in Virginia Beach is a fairly populous area and I would assume you have “national brand” gasoline pretty easily available. And I believe VA is a 93 octane available state. Not quite sure about your crappy gasoline statement and I would think a full fuel load of fresh national brand 93 octane (unmodified) fuel would be ok for your multiple runs. Typically so called octane boosters or enhancers are merely some form of alcohol because of the inherent high octane value of the alcohol. Using the typically pump posted calculation of (R + M)/2, Methanol = 99 and Ethanol = 98. BUT since (as we all know) fuel octane rating has nothing to do power and a given volume of alcohol has about 47.5% the energy content of a similar volume of gasoline you may be cheating all your dyno runs with fuel with a slightly lower energy density. I would suggest running on straight 93 octane pump gas.

RTD, I would tend to agree with you and based on the multiple dyno sheets (including my own testing) on 2012 Bosses there is no statistical delivered power difference between black/red key runs. Nor should there be as Ford NEVER said the TK reprogramming would deliver any more than advertised power. But it does appear there have been tweeks to the TK logic made as running changes and recent dyno results posted for 2013 Bosses seem to show a slight power shift. So maybe for the 2013 guys, there may be a slight shift in power. I have not followed the FR TK advertising to see if they have dropped the “neutral power” statement which was front-and-center when the TK program was finally launched for us 2012 owners.

Again I agree with your statement. The Boss engine technology is pretty amazing and Ford did give us quite a bit for a NA 5.0L engine. However, from personal experience, I have seen aftermarket tunes deliver +30 hp and +24 Lbft torque at perfectly safe Air/Fuel ratios and knock margins using 93 octane pump gasoline. These engine performance levels have been suitable without difficulty for sustained track use.

Boss2511, look forward to your tesing results!

no it didnt the shop that had the dyno I was going to get for cheap....well they went and murdered the Mac Tools truck driver. Shop is closed now lol. I still would like to do this test at some point. the car has more done to it now. hard to get it back to stock very easily at least on the exhaust and fuel injector side.
