Dark black tinted rear window: Is that OEM? Can film be removed?

Dear forum,

My MY2012 Boss 302 has its rear window tinted and it is pitch black. Unless it is extremely sunny outside, you cannot even adjust the rear view mirror because all you see is black.

Did the 2012 Boss come with this tint from the factory? If yes, can it be removed and/or replaced with a lighter film?

The rear side windows seem to have been tinted with aftermarket film.

When tracking the car, the rear window tint is really irritating because I usually am not the fastest one on the track and it is impossible to see other cars approaching.
Also, in heavy urban traffic, parking in reverse into tight spaces is a pain when you can't see a thing.

If the tint/film cannot be removed, I am gonna have to get me a non-tinted rear window I guess.

Thank you for any information you got on this!

Regards

Oliver aka Tomcat0815

I do not believe they came that way from the factory, it must be aftermarket tint; and yes it is probably a film and it can be removed.

But I don't think I would attempt that myself since I don't know what I am doing; I think a tint shop should be able to do it.

Thanks Bert.
The tint looks so well done, I assumed it's from the factory.
I guess I will go to a local tint shop then and ask them what they think.

Have a nice weekend!

They didn't come tinted so it was aftermarket and it can be removed. Lots of acetone, cotton *****, razor blades and patience or pay someone at a tint shop.

Theres the heating wires at the rear window so no use of razorblades there I guess.
A used rear window is about 300 $ so just swapping it out and selling the tinted one might be cheapest.

Anyway, I’m not so sure it’s not factory tinted cause the black tint goes so well with the black roof of the Boss 302.
I mean - the foil is not passing over the heating wires. It’s got maybe 2mm of clearance to the wires. And that distance is so constant, I cannot imagine aftermarket tint to be so exact.

It’s probably two films, Best I’ll have a tint shop check.

Plenty of different methods of removal on the web. The wires being on the back window makes using any scraper a no no. Here in AZ no Boss came with tint anywhere on the car unless dealer installed.

Short update on this issue:

The tinting film was the type that holdswith only very light adhesive.
I pulled at one corner of it and it came of in one piece with thero stuff remaining on the windows. Took less than five minutes for all three rear windows.

Without the film, the OEM tint is 100 % okay. Thanks for your support anyway!
