Crimp in resonator
Crimp in resonator
Last night I got my car on a lift and for the first time was able to inspect the underside of my car. I noticed a crimp in the driver side resonator that looks like it came from the factory that way. Has anybody else noticed this on their car? If it's intentional, does anybody know why it's there?
It's there for clearance to the fuel tank on the right side. Since it's a common resonator, both sides get the same part w/ crimps on both. The GT500 intermediate pipes (w/o resonators and thinner gauge) are direct replacements if you want to try without. They will bolt right up to the h-pipe and mufflers, and they don't cost too much.
Negatives: You'll see an big increase in rasp, which is a metallic slapping type of sound. Doesn't sound very good, but it goes away when the exhaust is heated up. Most high HP/L engines produce rasp to varying levels.
Positives: The exhaust note will sound brighter/crisper w/o the resonators. Also, the resonator has a 2-1/4" ID, but you really won't net any significant backpressure reduction w/o them.
Give the GT500 i-pipes a try. It's fun to experiment.
