Lots of pics of the 302R cars prior to the start of the '11 Grand Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series!

Thanks for posting. I noticed many of the Mustangs are running different rear spoilers and no front splitters. Is that a class spec decision or are they looking for a different down force balance?

ROUSH actually lobbied for the rear spoiler to keep the rearend planted at high speeds. It's an aftermarket part, the same one as run on the FR500C cars. Grand Am did not allow them on the 302Rs in 2010.

I've never seen the 302Rs run the LS-style front splitter. I have seen them with the "street BOSS" splitters, though. None of the ones pictured seem to have either, this year.

Could one deduct the cars have plenty of downforce on the front wheels but not enough on the rears in stock trim? Ford did a bunch of wind tunnel testing with the Boss and LS but that doesn't translate to racing in traffic? I've been thinking of adding a GT500 CF rear spoiler, mainly for looks, but maybe it will be functional as well.

It's entirely possible. I'm not sure specifically what the rules are regarding splitters or other airfoils in the Continental Tire series, but now that I think about it, I don't really see any cars with aero aids other than a modest rear wing. The cars are supposed to be representative of their street counterparts.

In the Rolex Series races (GT classes), however, aero regulation is more relaxed.
