Boss Hood

A paint process for that kind of design would most likely have cost more to produce than a decal. The 2003-04 Mach 1's hood stripe was a decal for this same reason.

Personally I would have like them to all be paint. Much easier to wax that way. Of course that would have slowed down production, added to the cost and make it harder to change when / if you get tired of the look. Guess we will have to see how the decals hold up.

Barring physical damage, the vinyl stripes hold up just fine. It's a rare if not a non issue for Ford with respect to warranty. As a precaution I've always hand wash the cars and on the stripes the sponge follows the direction parallel and towards the edges and not against them.

The stripes do not appear to be the vinyl tape that you see many stripes made out of. They are clear with either black, white, or red under them and are very shiny. They look like they will hold up just fine as long as you stay away from high pressure washes.

They hold up extremely well if they are anything like the GT500 stripes. I have run mine through automatic washes (without rails) without issue for four years. The only place I had a slight issue was the front bumper where the stripes overlapped. The dealer replaced them under warranty and they've been fine ever since.
