Thanks for the follow up. I'll save my dyno money then. I don't get over to that forum much so didn't see the dyno results. Glad they're posted. Results are similar to my dyno pulls. No peak improvement but improvement above 4500 rpm. I interpreted the reported hp and tq gains as peak, my fault. I like the intake but wish I had waited on the purchase so I could've bid on the autographed editions as they sold for less than I paid with no sig.

Please, someone correct me if I am wrong but I don't think there has been a single independent test of the CAI that showed anything near the claimed results. All that I have seen on the internet is that when a customer publishes a dyno result that shows virtually no improvement they are immediately admonished that they did the testing all wrong. Again, please correct if I am wrong.

It seems unreasonable to me to expect an increase in peak HP using any CAI without a tune.
1) The manufacturer didn't say that a tune was required to achieve the claimed results.
2) When you have a tune in the mix - then it becomes difficult to attribute HP/TQ improvements to the CAI or to the tune itself.
3) Finally, a tune is NOT going to change the amount of air ingested or the efficiency of HOW the air is ingested into the engine - rather a tune can allow optimization of the A/F's in open loop (in closed loop the A/F's are always optimized). If the CAI suddenly relieved an OEM-restricted air supply then, if anything, the car would be lean (more air than expected) and would likely result in a good (albeit potentially un-safe) performance benefit. A tune would only serve to get the A/F back in line which may actually REDUCE HP from a lean (un-tuned) condition. Alas, not to worry, the limited dyno results that we have seen simply don't show any measureable difference from stock.

I didn't start this because I didn't like the setup. I really like the cai especially the cf look with PJ endorsement. I would not have paid $507 for just that. I really liked the hp and tq gain reported and that's why I bought it. I was naive to believe the improvements were peak. There were improvements in hp and tq but not peak. Nowhere does Airaid say improvements are peak, but that there are increases in hp and tq and there are. I A$$umed and that was my fault. To add salt to my wounds the auctions of the autographed editions sold for less than I, and others, paid for non autographed ones. Yes, I could have bid on them and bought one then tried to sell mine but then I'm out a chunk of change while I try to sell the first one.
Done deal. I like the cai. It draws a lot of attention when you put the hood up. No tune rqd. Can't find the black key. I spend most of the time above 4500 in 4th and 5th. Wife doesn't like riding with me anymore but then she doesn't like riding in the 69 Mach either. (real lopey idle).
Someday someone will crack the red key tune and unleash peak hp and tq not that I need anymore power.
To 69mustangman and others, I wouldn't be that unhappy about the purchase and it doesn't sound like you are. It is a very nice looking piece, complements the engine bay and is likely well-engineered for fitment, reliability, etc. I too may go down the purchase path for these reasons. It just "irks" me a little when manufacturers make claims that cannot be repeated in the real world. I have a few HUNDRED hours of dyno experience - much of that with Ford cars.... Ford ECU's. I can tell you that the aforementioned computer "learning" and adaptation is very misunderstood and highly over-rated by the internet. By in large the learning of the computer is a necessity to deal with engines that wear over a lifetime of use. In other words, the ECU can't just work well and provide good perfomance and emissions while the engine is new - but it must perform over a lifetime of a car's service life and as the car slowly changes. Most of the learned adaptation helps the ECU to arrive on a precise calibration more quickly and accurately - as opposed to a second or so later if it wasn't "adapted". The procedure communicated to you by Airaid in my opinion is more of a description of a non-repeatable (therefore no refuting data) scenario than it is a legitimate test to show the yield of a performance product add-on. This is just MY opinion. I don't mean to attack Airaid. It is their claim and potentially one of the PRIMARY selling points of the product so it would just stand to reason that people would have an expectation of repeatability in results.

They also tested their intake with TK on the car used for the original design and dyno pulls. There were no issues with TK. If I want to add a tune later I'm all set. For this particular car, peak to peak gains were 26hp, with points above 7,000 seeing a full 30hp gain.

This intake is Boss specific with the correct intake tube orientation, not our current GT cold air.
We wont be much longer. Ours will require a tune and will be released shortly. We planned on having this released already but some production issues have set it back. Will probably be sometime around end of this month/beginning of January before it is released.
