I could use nav, but am glad not having sync. I think they should include heated/cooled seats and a heated steering wheel

Glad not having sync? You are against bluetooth connectivity for your phone?

Think of SYNC as a communication tool between you and your pit crew. I wish it had SYNC but I don't want the NAV.

Ford probably has to do this two step dance so they don't violate some EPA crap or whatever.
So this way you are buying it on your own after the fact. Its like buying a tuner. I'd pay $300.

$300? Absolutely. Less would be better, but I want the TracKey regardless--it's going to be used.

That would be my guess as well. Or perhaps it is a marketing move to get more Ford Racing-branded aftermarket parts out there.

I think it sucks that they actually make you pay for the Red key. They really are nickel and diming the owner.

I somewhat agree with this.

Devil's Advocate--maybe it's more for the owners that WON'T track their car, so they don't have to eat an additional $300 in MSRP.

But I'm definitely going to track it and use the TK.

I don't know about everyone else, but once I have the "Red Key" installed, the black key will remain in the nightstand drawer....

Heck for extra power/performance I would nickel and dime myself all day long I think the fun face will be so worth it and the s**t eating grin on the onlookers when they hear the engine come alive with the red would be priceless...

Track Key Available at any Ford Dealer

According to the 'Hero Card"; Ford Racing is making this software available at any Ford Dealer. Check out the Hero Card thread. Its on the back page. If you click the link for Track Key, it just takes you to the FRP catalog, but it doesn't tell you anything about the Track Key. I wonder if the pricing tossed out here includes the Tech's time to load the software into the PCM. If not, you can probably add another $100 on top of the software price. I agree, what's another $500 at this point.

I'd say it would be a safe bet to assume Ford can't include it because of some EPA/emission reasons. By not making it an "option" Ford wouldn't have to test/pass emissions with it. Just a guess
