2012 Boss 302 priced at approximately $40,000

According to the Mustang Dream giveaway, the approximate value of the Boss 302 they are raffling off is $40,000:

http://mustangsdaily.com/blog/2010/1...imately-40000/

If this is true, for those of you interested in buying a 2012 Boss 302, would you buy the car at $40,000? What about with a $5,000 markup? $10,000 markup?

My Gt stickered at 39+. I don't know if I'm hard core enough for the boss. I like the many luxuries that my gt affords me. I think I'll just be happy with my decision.

It it was available in GB (and $40k was for sure MSRP) I'd be feeling a little regretful. But since its not I can be happy with my little 5.0 and happy for those who will own a BOSS

I'd wager a guess that tax liability is factored into that $40k figure as well, so it might be inflated by $3-4k; the contest states that the winner will have both vehicles tax-free, but Uncle Sam's gotta get his somewhere...

Actually, the raffle says that the charity will pay your taxes on both cars. So if you win you literally pay nothing.

Hmmm..so you think it will cost less? I can't imagine Ford pricing it at $37k or $38k. I actually thought the pricing would be more like $45k when they first announced the car.

Maybe upper 30s to low 40s base, options could push it up to the mid 40s.

Tough call at $40k. I'm first on the list for a Boss at my dealer. X-plan on the base GT is $27k and change. +8k for a 525 or 624hp FRPP supercharger installed. I'm not a track racer so justifying $40k or more is hard when there is so much room to mod a GT for my straight line enjoyment.

The Boss 302 is not a straight line car, so if your priority is straight line performance, then go with the GT and mod it.

I think it will do both very well!
I agree with Five Oh Brian on the fact of you are going to mod a lot, then a GT would be a great base to start from. I am looking for the Boss to be totaly FUN as is and enjoy it! (Maybe some small mods!)

Maybe a MSRP of 40k.
But I doubt you will be able to get one for less then 45k.
Can you say dealer mark up ?
I would not be surprised to see some listed for 50k.

I like the performance of the car, don't really like the looks of it.

It is also more money then I would ever spend on a Mustang.

Agreed. The Boss 302 will do both well. It should accelerate from a standstill very well, but it's set up with road racing in mind.

Someone wanting a drag car would be better served with a standard GT and modding the heck out of it (like we all seem to end up doing!). Someone hitting the road courses will find no better new production car for the money than the Boss 302!
